Musings of the Day: Trying It On For Size?
You probably all know my answer to this one right?
So when you go to Sephora or your local counter do you test makeup out on yourself? On your lips? Cheeks?
As I said you probably know my answer, a big, fat NO! I refuse to put anything on my lips, cheeks, or face at counters or Sephora. If I want to test I swatch on my hand but I'm too anal to try any of it on my face. Be it at MAC, Dior, or Sephora I don't care what counter or store I'm at, I simply won't test any of it.
Yuk!
Tis my anal, germ-a-phobic nature but I'm not testing any of that stuff on my face!

Sadly with my bad allergic reactions to things especially those containing SPF I have to try them on my face first. :( (I try to stick with liquids though) but when I am at little local counters like my dear Evie who sells Paul and Joe I will try everything on no question!! lol... it's a trust thing, hah.
When I'm at Sephora, I usually use my tattoo on my wrist to gauge how a color will look. This comes in handy particularly when seeing how well a concealer will cover because I can put a dab of all them them on and declare a winner... btw, Kat Von D has the highest coverage of all at Sephora.

Interesting concept! Did you feel it worked well on your ink? It had great coverage but I wasn't sure sure about using it to cover a tat!
I won't try anything on at Sephora.
The makeup they put out is clearly dirty.
So many people put their fingers in them.
But I do see people putting things on their face, eye lids, and lips.
I can only imagine the makeup gets sanitized once a day.
I think only a swatch on the hand is okay.
EFF NO!!
That's completely gross and makes my stomach sick.
I see women applying LIPSTICK right on their pouts and it makes me want to scream!!
I don't know why anyone would want to do that!!
Oh no, I just swatch on my hand. I guess I have become somewhat of a germ-a-phob since starting to work in a hospital. I would never put any of those testers at Sephora anywhere near my face!
hmmm, I'll test lipsticks after wiping them generously with a tissue on my lips. Lipglosses, nope except at counters that remove the applicator. Mascara, NEVER. eyeliners I can tell by looking at them if I want them. ES I test on my hand. :)

I've done it at MAC on my lips, when they've pulled out a sample from the counter below, and given me a clean, santizied swab to use. But just off the counter... UGH no.

This really depends on if I can sanitize the tester myself. Powder blush; maybe. Foundation in a pump; maybe. Eyeshadow, no (eyes are too susceptible to germs). Eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss, lipstick; hells to the no. Anything I test near my face I sanitize, and use the applicators at the end of the aisle. If I don't like how the tester looks, though, I don't even do that. I use my arms/hands instead.
I usually test on the inside of my wrist for face products (it's the closest to my coloring, and I adjust from there). For lip products, the end of my index finger is the closest to my lip color.
I would much rather buy something and test is at home, and have to return it, than risk getting an infection.
At MAC, I ask the MA to sanitize it, and then I will try it. But I will only do it if I see them sanitize it and wipe it off directly in front of me.

I also swatch on the hand and also carry my own cotton pads, wet wipes and tissues on a serious make-up testing/swatching day in case there aren't any on hand in any of the stores or counter's i'm visiting.
agreed! not at sephora...the stuff there is disgusting >_<
i have seen people with cold sores trying out lipsticks, people trying out liners...pink eye?
lol anyway yeah, totally not try it out other than on the back of my hand. even then, i find alcohol and wipe it off quickly. (i go a tad far...lol)

I'm horrified to do that! Everybody gets their little hands in there, and really I don't try makeup no matter where I go. Never done it.
I'll only swatch on my hands. I'm very anal about it too. Even if the tester looks relatively new, I still won't try it on my face! Imagine the number of hands that have touched it and the bacteria n germs! :S

I couldn't agree more. I'd rather buy it, test it, and return it rather than risk some sort of infection from a tester ewww!
