Musings of the Day: MAC Site
I think this is a rather awesome Musing of the day so tell me whatcha think!

Ok, so I've been thinking about this really, really hard (without busting a blood vessel I promise) and I remember how much I liked and enjoyed playing around with the MAC site when it was first updated. I mean it's kinda ingenious being able to search by color and having the color options in every single available product etc....
But...well...the novelty wore off and I really, really, really, really miss the old design. For example, if I'm logging on just to have a quick look at a new collection it's so difficult to navigate because the collection pages go by so quickly...or maybe I'm not clicking fast enough?
On top of that the black background drowns out the actual photos of the products. Plus one click brings another sliding frame and after that another frame appears...and I begin to feel like a n00b on the Internetz for the first time. What the hell?
I dunno it's just too many bells and whistles and I just loved the simplicity of the old site.
Please MAC bring it back?

I like black for design and aesthetics, however I HATE the new MAC website because it's hard to see what the different colors are for products. The way it's set up now makes it very difficult for me to even guess I might like a shade, which wasn't a problem with the old site. I'd like a site that's still easy to navigate, but also makes it so I'm more likely to purchase a product. The way the new site is set up, I don't want to visit it, much less purchase anything from it, and I LOVE MAC, so that's sad!
What about the Canadian website, it might be better than the American one as MAC is a Canadian brand.
The Canadian website is still the same as the (old) American one! But I took a look and it seems very confusing... especially as I look at things by collections usually. :S
I remember when it first came out, and I had to write an email about a number of bugs or just bad layout things I found (like the email them link not working, or the fact that when you searched for an item, and clicked it, it just brought you to the overall, and didn't highlight the item you searched for). A few days later, they were magically fixed, hehe. Still trying to figure out how to find out if an item is LE or not. I often browse the macpro site for info, and just use the maccosmetics site for shopping. I understand that change is necessary, and good, but this was not change for the better.
I am so glad that someone finally said it!!!! When the new site launched, I thought 'swanky!'. But after browsing for a while, I started disliking it, and yesterday when I was trying to look up some products and was there fumbling, I decidedly hated the new site. It's hard to navigate and the black background plus the tiny font make it so hard to read. I switched to the UK site in the end.
Much like MAC's launches of late, the new site is a big fail to me!

i mean seriously..they don't even have the limited edition triangles over there anymore..how do i know a product is ltd or not..i can't contact a MAC rep at 2 or 3 in the night!! :@
not only that..i hate the lil teeeny tiiiiny boxes u have to move your mouse over to find a specific shade of l/s or e/s...grrr..!!!
and oh yah...i miss the part where just by placing ur mouse over an e/s or l/s color box the description came as a lil temporary box...I MISS THE OLD WEBSITE..I WANT IT BAAAACK!!! :(
OMG i hate the new site, it was easier to navigate before i think.
I hate the new site. The navigation is atrocious. It took me forever to get the store finder to work properly when I was in New York trying to find the location of a MAC store.
I miss the old site too. :(
I don't like it. I prefer the old site. Bring it back!

I could access the new site for ONE DAY before the evil warlords at MAC made it impossible for someone with a CDN IP addy to get there.
Now the site automatically loads mac.ca (even if I enter mac.com), and I can't even view the US portal! sheesh! Anyways, if you want, you can always come on over to the Canuck side 'cause we have the old site :) I betya they'll let you visit us!

I must say AT least the old site I could somewhat determine a shade too but now it's impossible :(
I adore it myself but I dunno do not want the new site. At first I liked it but now it's just tiresome when I am looking for something in a rush!

ugh it is I hope mac doesn't embrace the design for all the portals!
Very confusing gives me a headache hehe. At first I LOVED it but when I was trying to do a rather quickie look at items it just become cumbersome :(

eep that's horrible.
I agree change is sometimes necessary but this isn't for the better. It was nice at first try but it becomes rather difficult to navigate when you're searching quickly for an item.

Me too! I felt the same and played with it for quite a while but when I'm trying to do a quick search of want to see what's new it's near impossible to get info :(
Major fail for me too sigh! I've been using the Uk site too lol!

It's really really difficult to navigate I couldn't agree more hun! I hear and feel your rants :-D I wish they'd go back to the old style sigh or at least something with a more minimal and simple interface.

if you do want to see it though just use a proxy :-D
I'm positive Canada MAC loves me just as much as US so I'll visit soon hehehe :)

At first I HATED it, but I've made myself get used to it. I figure there's no use fighting it and it does have some rather cool features like Colourplay. But I do think "simple" is better. There's too many things to click on to just be able to see a swatch. Why didn't they revamp those while they were at it? All the pale pink lipglass swatches look identical, for example.
ugh i h8 the new website!!! the part i h8 most is not being able to tell whether a product is limited edition or not
maccosmetics.ca didn't change at all! I can't go to the US website so I don't know what it looks like!

JUst can't get used to the fanfare of the new site :P
try using a proxy to view the US one!
