Pieces of Life: Open Mic Edition, Ask the Muse!

Hey guys!

If you've been reading my little blog for a while now chances are you realize what a crumb I am with e-mails. It's gotten considerably worst as my blog has grown up. I apologize in a major way if you've written to me and are still awaiting my reply. It's no excuse but I am rubbish at organizing my inbox and it's overflowing (literally) with unread e-mails that I seriously need to go through!

Which is why I decided to create a little open mic post! So here it is, my comment box is open and I'm ready for your dying questions. Post 'em below and I'll answer them all personally.

Wanna know my favorite color? Favorite concealer? What I think of a certain cosmetic brand? Where I shop? What I had for dinner yesterday? Favorite skincare? How to use some makeup item or another?

Ask away and I'll answer!

Happy posting!

Looking forward to talking to you all soon!

that is so sweet of you for doing something about the emails!!! I'm sure a lot would ask their questions away! I just wanted to ask you muse, out of all the products you have tried, Drugstore ones, which drugstore brand do you think works good???

Question: what items do you have in your purse's make-up bag??

Hi Muse!!
I was wondering what the best skincare routine is for normal to dry skin in your opinion. I have skin very much like yours in that it is really clear, and perfect looking, the only problem is that i get a little bit dry in my T zone in the winter. also what is the best foundation for this same skin type.
THanks!

Which of the many under-eye concealers you've tried did you like the most? Which one didn't settle into fine lines, was not drying, and gave really good coverage?? Thanks!!

Where did you buy the EcoTools Brush set that is featured in your giveaway? I'm interested in buying it. How much was it?

Also, did you get in the crazy lines for the cosmetic settlement deal? What'd you get?
I was at Macy's because the line moved faster and it was shorter.
I got a Lancome mascara!! Score!!

Have you tried the Tarte infinite glow bestsellers palette? Is it muse approved?

What do you think of Benefit Dallas?
I bought it and was wondering where you'd apply it.

Just curious, when the MUAs see you at like Sephora or MAC do they scrammble to help you knowing you'll make their pay?? haha!

Also, could you post hauls?
Maybe if you have time.

Do you like Max Factor mascara?
What's your fave?

Thank you so much for putting up with me and answering all these questions!!

wow, what a great opportunity to ask the queen of cosmetics a question or two!

I'm very curious how you keep track of all your cosmetics, how do you make sure you don't forget you have something stashed away, or a similar color, do you keep an inventory in a list or spreadsheet?

Great idea, Muse!
I only want to know where in NY you live (which borough) since I loved the snowy view from your room so much, I have to know where that is.
Thank you!

hi nikki!

hehe I thought it would be easier as I stink at emails :) The best...hmmm it's so hard to say but I do believe that I keep coming back to mac again and again and again because it's really inexpensive and has a good quality of product for the price plus VARIETY!

;)

hello there iamalejandra!

At the moment I have a sephora mirror, clarins joli rouge in papaya (that's what I'm wearing today so I'm toting it around for touch ups), raycious pressed powder, dior radiance booster pen, and morgen schick schick stick stain :)

hi a. rose.

it's really hard to say as I've tried so so many. I suggest rereading some of my reviews as I did a round up of each and said which creased, which worked well for puffy, etc....it's hard to pick just one. At the moment I can say two that are my fav are the mally cancellation system I just reviewed and the bobbi brown concealer palette. Both are my hg's!

hope that helps!

hi crystal :)

whoa lots of cool questions!

You can buy ecotools at walgreens, ulta and I think duane reed as well. and drugstore.com too...I think the kit is $12.99 or so :)

I didn't bother with the cosmetic settlement to be honest. It really wasn't worth the effort in my humblest opinion and seemed a big rip. I mean giving away 15ml perfumes? That's kinda a rip off dontcha think? That's what they give free anyway with gwps or even sample wise :P

So nope I didn't bother with waiting on lines or going to any of the stores for the swag ;)

I'm glad you got a mascara at least because I heard some of the items were blah :P ;)

good haul hun!

Tried the tarte infinite glow bestsellers palette and like them but not Muse approved :) too brown on the bronzer :P You can do better in my humble opinion with some other line. I normally combine a bright colored bb potted rouge and add a bit of a browner blush on top for a bronzy sunkissed look :)

I love dallas but it's a pain in the butt to work with. If you're a long time reader I'm sure you noticed how obsessed I am with being as pale as possible so dallas def gives me a dirty muddy look...again to make it look better I apply a bright cheek stain or rouge prior to dusting dallas on the apples of my cheeks...I've tried using it on my forehead and to contour with but honestly my cheeks are too chubby and it makes me look scary :P so I just dust on my cheeks :)

I'm a nitpicker when it comes to MUA's...they scare me...lol I don't like vultures and a majority of them are just that. I have two MAC MUA's that I deal with and I'm friends with and I refuse to work with anyone else. I have their cell numbers and I always call ahead to be sure they are on the clock and most times my girl Dianne even offers to come to my office or comes in, offclock, just to do my sale which is really fabs. I'm a creature of habit with MUA's and I stick to what I know. As far as other counters I deal with one mua as well. My Dior guy is super and he's really sweet, recently he left Nordstrom to work at Macy's 34th so I had to switch where I was buying dior to be with him as I refuse to buy if he isn't around. I just get used to people and don't like switching. I have one mua per a brand that I buy from and I'm literally heartbroken when they leave. When my mua at saks started repping Givenchy at Times Square I was devasted :P

I suppose it makes me high maintenance but these people take good care of me and I like staying with them :) As for Sephora I absolutely hate going in as the MUA's change so often and I feel like I'm always being followed like I'm going to lift a lipstick or something...so about 90% of my Sephora sales are done online to avoid idiots following me around and asking me if I need a basket or if I need help with anything over and over and over again.....it really irritates me to say the least.

LOL I dunno if they scramble but they treat me wonderfully well :) My mac girl gave me her entire originals gratis last year which was so very sweet :)

What sort of hauls were you thinking about? Lately when I haul I space my reviews out slowly. I used to just do a haul and a group review but since I've grown I do a post of each review so it's more detailed :)

I don't do drugstore mascara too well :( sorry. My fav mascara is a japanese one which is from a brand called Majolica Majorca.

Hope this answers everything hehe!

That was rather fun replying to them all! Thanks for being so interested crystal!

hi mellerson
oh gosh lol thanks mellerson...I don't think of myself as the queen :) sure feels nice hearing it though!

I'm anal lol that's how I keep track :) I label everything I own with a date of purchase, everything is organized according to color, and recently I got a rolling organizing which I hope I'll be able to store a majority of my shadows and such in. At the moment it's spaced apart and I was hopeful this would make a better system for me.

I don't have a spreadsheet of color but I do remember every single shade, color, and item I have even if my stash is huge I still know what I have, where it is, etc...

One thing I hate about myself is how much I like buying similar shades. If mac releases aqua today and a new aqua tomorrow I'm normally the first to buy it when I KNOW that I have practically the same damn shade home....the little differences in color just makes me want to own it though :) How diseased :)

but as far as knowing what I have...tis all in my head :)

hi nell!

I live abouts...20 minutes from manhattan? ;) on a good day of traffic that is :) I work and play in the city but I come home to my nice Victorian house to sleep and relax lol :) I love the city and I'd probably love living in it but two things keep me from moving...I love my house too much and I don't think I'd be able to afford a nice apartment in Manhattan rent is ridiculous ;)

As for where, Sleepy Hollow, New York :) headless horsemen country ;)

Thanks for your answer! I went to Sleepy Hollow in November!!! What a great name for a sweet town. I´m a bit (well a lot) of an americanophile. I wish we weren´t that settled here, so I could fulfill my dream of living in the US for some time, but that´s probably too late now, sad sigh...

What are your favorite mineral makeup brands?

Have you fallen in love with Tarte's cheek stains like I somehow managed to do ? (I'm still SHOCKED at this)

Would you like a musey assistant to help you go through emails and organize them?

How long is your hair?

Do you have a favorite nail polish brand?

What is the one facial product you couldn't live without?

What is your favorite lipstick and lipgloss?

What's your holy grail eyeliner?

What is your holy grail blush?

What's the one makeup product you'd want if you were stuck on a desert island?

HIHI! i was wondering how your supposed to tell what colour concealer one supposed to wear. it is supposed to be lighter than your skin colour or close to it. i have very dark circles and i just don't know how to get rid of them!

hey dd

for mineral makeup in regards to foundation I love prescriptives mineral makeup, surreal skin by UD, and I think that's it...I feel like I'm missing one here...hmmm...

For shadows and such I like Aromaleigh but I really have to explore the mineral world further....I love BE glimmers too!

I really love tarte cheek stains :) been using 'em for years and years...as of late I think the formula is actually better than it originally was :) def good stuff! and smells yums!

I'd love an assistant but many of the items in my inbox are stuff that I need to answer directly so really an assistant would kinda be pointless I guess? As it's press releases, sending out links for reviews to reps, etc...plus personal emails asking questions and such from readers :)

My hair at the moment is nearly to my top of my butt...quite long and in need of a trim :) you can see me with shorter hair in my "about me" section :)

Chanel is my fav nail polish brand...I don't wear nail polish much but if I do it's normally a chanel color or secondly nars.

I couldn't live without steamcream :) review on that coming soon!

favorite gloss is too faced mirror mirror at the moment as for color MAC pink grapefruit is my fav color. Fav lipstick is MAC b/c it's affordable and has a huge range of shades..fav lipstick color mac queen's sin :)

Holy grail liner is BB gel liner or smashbox pot liner (the old version)

Holy grail blush is hmmm...hard one...nars super orgasm and prior to that orgasm!

It's hard deciding on one but I'd say concealer hehe!

:D!

Great ?'s!

hi christine.

That's really something you have to figure out for yourself by trail and error :) I go a shade lighter for myself but some people prefer going more beige or more yellow. If I were you I'd go to different counters and have them test a few different ones to see what works best :)

Hope this helps!
