MAC Hello Kitty Collection

Excitement is afoot today in the blogging world as news of MAC Hello Kitty hits the blogsphere! WWD has posted the first images and information on this coveted collect for MAC fans far and wide and although it looks promising the Muse can't help but feel a tiny tinge of disappointment.

I love Hello Kitty. My house is filled with ridiculous items that feature Hello Kitty like a TV, a microwave, a computer keyboard and mouse, many a handbag, and various other bits of girlish insanity! When I think Hello Kitty I think pink and girlish so imagine my surprise and shock when I seen the first images of the collection included...black compacts?

Um....

Ok...well black isn't too bad...black is elegant and chic....but...but....the image on the compacts looks kinda blah!? When did Hello Kitty get so cheap looking? And how about that shadow trio pictured....that's rather Heatherette like isn't it!??! The shades look quite similar to what was released in the Heatherette shadow trios......

The good news is the collection is double star studded so you'll be getting two releases one standard price and one high end. Hello Kitty Colour Collection contains the normal array of releases such as the shadow trios you see pictured, lipsticks, etc...where as Hello Kitty Kouture will include the crystal studded compacts we've all read about on forums, other blogs, etc.....

Pictured is the MAC Hello Kitty Colour Collection and I can't help but feel a gloomy depression over it however considering I haven't yet seen images pop up for MAC Hello Kitty Kouture I am keeping hope alive that this will redeem the looks of the lower end releases!

Of course I'm basing my opinions and thoughts on solely on the photos that have cropped up so far and really who knows, once I walk into MAC and see the collection for myself I may just fall over in ecstasy but at the moment I am a tad bit saddened by what I have seen so far.
How about you?

Do share your thoughts of this collection with the Muse!

What did you want to see released with this collection?

Shimmer, Sparkle, and Pink?

Black, Chic, and Elegant?

Tell the Muse!

I have to say I´m quite glad it isn´t bright pink and sparkly, but rather grown-up looking and elegant. But I must add that I´ve never been into Hello Kitty in the first place. I´m looking forward to the collection!

Hola Muse - I was looking at the colours ,too and thinking none of it will work for me. But of course they don't have pics of the full collection so I am hoping it might have a few things I can purchase. Otherwise I may just have to stick with the key chains and such. I also agree with you on the way HK looks - couldn't they desing something that looked a bit more sophistaced? *sigh* Ok ok, I will try and be patient and hopefully it will be better IRL.

I love black. You know I love black. But, Hello Kitty looks WRONG in black. WTF were they thinking?

And yeah I was thinking that trio did remind me of the heatherettes.

It's not as kawaii as I thought it would be =( I hope the Kitty Kouture collection looks better (I think it will since it has the crystal studded compact-shiny, crystallized things make my eyes go big and my brain go numb and all of a sudden I'm back at home with a big bunch of goodies-eeeek !)

Hey Muse,

That Trio is actually a Quad. The brush and compact hide the fourth shade which looks to be a silvery shade. You can see it in the mirror.

As for the look, I like the black. Hello Kitty did have a black themed release a few years ago. The compact looks cute. The one problem i have is that the colors wont look good on me. But hopefully they will have another palette that is for warm toned girls.

Wow these are... I'm so sorry to say... but these could pass as knock-offs with their faux-edgy design, and colors that are sadly so similar to those Barbie cosmetics you can find in toy stores... The concept in itself is a must-buy for me, so I hope they are not as plastic-y and cheap looking as they look in the pictures. I would have wanted some princess-style packaging and then sophisticated shimmery colors (Like Jill Stuart or maybe Anna Sui) – I think that would really be Hello Kitty-ish! Or even a pink-themed collection with many elegant pinks and peaches for the eyes and stylish liners and mascaras to add some drama (like bronze or plum)... or a combination of bright colors meant to widen eyes for an anime look. All in all these seem so uninspired... And from MAC even. Please someone tell them that Kitty-san is waaaaaaaay more stylish than that!

hi nell!

I think alot of people feel the same and those, like me, who want a more kawaii feel to it are the minority :)

I am too! Although I can rant a blue streak I'm still very excited to see the shades in person :)

Hi J!

I think I should be ok with the colors as I'm game for anything but I'm still a bit disappointed on the style of emblem they choose to use :(

I think they feel it's very chic and sophisticated but maybe a combo of kawaii and sophistication would be even better..at least that's how I feel :(

Me too lol! I'll try to be patient and not rant too much until I actually see the products up close and personal!

hey dd!

I'm all about black too :) but I must say I'm not loving the looks of this :(

The shadow looks somewhat like the two heatherette shades..the pink and aqua :( I sure hope not.!

Until I see it up close and personal I'll have to mourn the images available :P

hi gemma!

I feel ya hun :( I hope the Kitty Kouture is gorgeous..and I really do think it will be but the price of one compact is $90 so I'm kinda squirmy eep! Not sure I wanna dish out $90 with this failing economy but meh I'm diseased enough to do so ;)

hi there invie!

Thanks for telling me that! I was so excited this morning just to see the images I failed to read the article and actually notice ht was a fourth shade..!

Mmm I'm not so sure about the black :( I wouldn't mind the black if it had a more kawaii feel and the emblem was a bit nicer...just looks kinda of cheesy :P

Dontcha think the bolder shades would look good on your warmer tone?! :)

Thanks for the comment!

Hugs!

hi cherry!!!!!!!!!!

Mmmmm..I'm with you :(

The concept is a must buy for me but I expect alot more...dunno..I guess I have to see it in person before I decide fully.

Exactly what I was thinking a la JS and AS would be ideal!

And again my thoughts exactly..a more anime, doll like look is something I'd be highly interested in seeing!

Amen! preach it sista :)

hehe!

Thanks for the comment cherry and hopefully we'll all be very in love once we do see it!

Come to think of HK, I think pink, white and cute. Well, from this photo, however, it seems more cutish edgy, if that's the word.

The first glance at this collection, other than the cute designs, the colors seem like they've been done it before. and um, the black faced kitty looks really weird,,, can we have the Kitty's original face back PLZ~!

Hi Muse,

I'm with you, I don't much like it. And that's good, because that means I'll save $! Yes, black is elegant, but when I think of Hello Kitty, it's not elegance that comes to mind, but cutesy. My initial impression when I saw the pic...yuk!

Hi Muse,

Long time no commenting here. This is so WRONG! Earth to MAC, what's going on? The packaging is butt ugly. Oh my, that means I'm sitting this one out as well. Can't they just at least do it in white like that Moonlight collection in summer 07?

Argh, I think MAC is playing me. If they really want me to buy their stuff ever again, they'd better shape up!

hi there Vivian!

I'm with you all the way! Pink, white, cutesy :) I'm unsure if this really sports much cute for me :P

It's been done and rerun for me too...BUT in it's defense I'll say I haven't seen it yet so I prob will change my mind and be gagging for air when I see how great it is in person hehe!

agreed! The black face they did was prob for a sophisticated grown up look but I'd rather the cutesy face oh wells:P

hi Anonymous!

Honestly I wish I could say it would save me $ but I'll prob indulge b/c I'm diseased lol!

I'm more with you..cute comes to mind for me..and this just doesn't do it for me...I guess they wanted a grown up feel but I like the cute factor :)

I'm so glad you agree b/c I thought I was in the minority wanting cute over grown up!

Thanks for the comment!

Hugs!

Hello Kitty is supposed to be kawaii not grown up. It really should have been white with pink accents, in my opinion ;P

Hey Dao!

What's up lady? Missed ya around here!

I'm hearing you! I thought I was alone so nice to hear someone else ranting with me!

I prob won't sit it out as the concept has it's appeal..but sheesh couldn't we have white packaging or pink? or something girlish instead of grown up sigh!

Sigh...here's a hug to feel better!

HUGGGGGG!

Epic fail. At least the Barbie collection looked retro and mature.

Plus, I'm not sure how I feel about Hello Kitty doing black-face; this is going to come back and haunt her should she ever run for office.

I'm excited for this, but not as excited as I was before seeing the pictures.
Idk, I'll probably go drool but only buy one or two things that I'll truly use.

I was so looking forward to this collection but now that I've seen the pictures I'm disappointed. I was expecting something pink and girlish. HK in black is just wrong. Both the packaging and the colors looks boring. I think I'm gonna pass on this collection.

hey aline!

I'm totally excited about mac and HK getting together :) But I'm a little bit saddened it's not as girlish as I dreamed of sigh!

I haven't yet the good word on the piggies but when I do will give you the low down :) The one pigment I do see looks like Fuschia..hope not b/c I'd love new piggies!

I'm all about orange too lately :) I'm loving the orange gloss released with the manish collection!

Tell me about it..talk about broke sigh!

Me too! I was totally expecting pink and girlish..I guess they wanted to go with a more grown up HK!

I'm not going to pass b/c I simply adore the idea/concept but I am very disappointed about the black :(

I totally agree with you on the colour choice for HK! To me, the whole dominant black theme looks like its geared towards being punk/edgy chic rather than the cuteness its always known for. *sighs* I guess nothing could really top off MAC's Barbie collection.

My guess is that they had a few colors in mind on the drawing board. All in white. All in bright pink. and they had to go for the all in black. It might be v mac to be all black but it is indeed v wrong to see hello kitty in black.

hello hege!

Thanks so much glad you enjoy Musings.

MAC does not test on animals. Urban Decay is another company that doesn't test on animals.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
