Musings of the Day: Possession Obsession
Do you hate your friends digging into your cosmetics? Can't stand when your mate tries to use your favorite gloss? Absolutely abhor the idea of anyone touching your beloved stash?
I probably fall into the possessive category with my cosmetics but than again none of my friends are as obsessed about makeup as I am but I still don't like them digging through my collection or swatching it or lord knows even using it! I guess I'm a greedy girl that doesn't share her toys well!

Are you possessive with your makeup or maybe it doesn't bother you if someone touches or uses your stash?

none of my friends are into makeup that much, and the few that are live far away, so we try each other's stuff on the rare visits. i'm not possessive of it but nobody had better touch my train case if i'm not there!
Ooh I'm definitely possesive! It's not so much that I don't like sharing, it's just that most people aren't as careful with their things as I am...I take good care of all of my belongings (not just makeup, but books, clothing, everything! and like to keep them nice and neat (I guess I'm anal? lol!)Although my sister has an all-access pass to my stash, she's allowed to borrow just about anything - and my 3 year old niece has worn some of my MAC stuff hehe

I'm fairly possessive about my cosmetics: I'd sooner let random strangers touch me with their grubby fingers than let them manhandle my makeup stash. Somethings are sacred.
Maybe its becaue I'm an only child...but I am very possesive/obsessive w/my makeup and other things. I don't wany anyones hands on my stuff.
I was recently out w/some friends and we were getting ready to leave, and one of them just thought she could go into my purse to see what lip stuff I had there. Uh, no, you can't. I caught her w/the applicator almost to her lips before I went postal on her. I so would have thrown that lipgloss away if she would have used it!
i just hide most of my stash when a friend visits!!

I have very few friends that really enjoy makeup. However, I love to share it with my older sister who is a little makeup challenged (she almost never washes her brushes and uses a lot of Clinique:( I don't mind if she peruses my stash just so long as it's with clean fingers;) So far, I've converted her on a few items. It's a slow, uphill battle;)

I'm the same way! I take very good care of everything I own and I'm very neat and tidy..my friend Jenn is such a pig it's surreal.....when I go to her apartment I have to start cleaning up for her...it's crazy how badly she takes care of her stuff!
I won't let my sis into my stash..I simply adore her but she's not nearly as nice to cosmetics as I am lol!

Ditto...my friends like it and use it but aren't "into" the way I am :) My older sis is makeup challenged too :) I like introducing her to new stuff however I'm so not allowing her into my stash lol!
My sister never washes her brushes either..or freaking takes her makeup off at night...it was a god sent the day I intro'ed her to mac wipes lol!

I am very possessive with my make up too. :) Or pretty much everything come to think of it. ;) I don't actually have friends coming around to hang out and look at makeup, because we all have husbands and kids, not like 15 years ago, if you know what I mean. When I visit my sister and Mum, my sis likes looking through my makeup bag, but I usually only take a small selection and not my prized possessions, so that's okay. ;) My girls aren't interested in makeup yet as they're only 4 and 7, but when they are, I might let them use my cheaper make up. However my Chantecaille, Guerlain, Dior, Chanel, etc. stuff will remained locked away. ;)
Yes! I'm possessive with my vanity table (also where I keep my makeup). But, I have good reason to be! You see, my mom and my friends view as a cosmetic wonderland: irresistible. They'll come in (usually when I'm styling my hair in my bathroom) and they'll turn on the lights and look over the trays. One time, I caught one of my girlfriends opening two of my Stila eyeshadow palettes and I swear, I could feel my blood starting to boil! I guess that means I'm a lil' possessive :D Don't worry, the matter was resolved, so no ER visit to the hospital needed - nor the People's Court (haha, could you imagine that case on Judge Judy!). Thanks for letting me share! :D

Ditto! I was just saying that I am kinda possessive of my belongings in general. I understand :) but soon you might have to worry about your kids getting into your makeup hehe!

That's one thing that terrifies me about being a mum one day...somehow being too selfish with my stuff LOL....

Haha! I guess I'm half and half, because I don't mind them wearing my makeup, as long as I applied it. Otherwise, I get a bit testy.

but i think it has to do more with the fact that whenever i let others touch my things (especially my prized possesions) something bad happens. i think its just the luck i have haha
but i will admit i'm a little greedy. lol. my makeup must be handled just so, then if i feel that a certain product is ready to be handled by one of my trusted besties then i (painfully) let it go.
It depends on why they are looking in my stash. Looking to see what I have so they can ask questions, or test something in a sanitary manner (back of washed hands for lippies, for example), I'm fine with. Going through my stash so they can use it, especially unsanitary, or without asking (example, mascara), I get ticked off. I think this has more to do with my obsession with sanitation than anything, though. If I can't trust my own stash because someone came over, and I don't know what they got into, that's just not fair, since I spent all that time and money on my "collection".
Also, asking is just polite. It's like asking to use a glass at a mate's house; you know they're fine with it, but it's just the polite thing to do.
heck yes lol I get angry when my cousin says "oh you have so much make up, give me some!"
well I used to give her the ones I never ended up using but when I go to her house, the makeup is still there untouched! I rather give it to someone who will actually use it :\
I guess I'm not very possessive of my stash. But...... There are still a few things I can't stand. I don't like friends to take my stash themselves from my pouch or drawers. I have to pass to them as I'm afraid they'll miss up my order or break my makeup! No using of my eyeshadows using fingers!! Only brushes are allowed to touch my eyeshadows. Think of all the germs and bacteria on fingers. Yuck! Oh and I don't like to share mascaras too.
I don't think I'm that possessive, i don't mind LENDING (not GIVING) people stuff, as long its not stuff like lipbalms, lipgloss, lipsticks (mine is unhygenie as it is...to lend it to other people..oh no...).
But I'll get furious if people take my stuff without informing or asking me in advanced. Especially my high end products. lol
I'm fine with them browsing and using it even, but please, tell me first. I squirm a little when they use my stuff.. but that's what alcohol swabs are for. I'll clean my brushes after them, re sharpen my pencils and wipe a thick layer or l/s away before I use it. THe only things I cant 'clean' are wand lippies and mascara.. thankfully few people touch my things.
Yes! I am!!!! It's ok when they just open it to see the color and admire them. But it always gives me the yucky feel when they try to try them on. I hate sharing my makeup. It's for sanitary purpose though. I don't mind if they use new brushes on and discard anything that already touch their skin. I'm really afraid that I will get zits and bits from other people's skin.

I certainly don't mind if my friends go through my stash, we love to play makeup! However, I do hate when they ask if they can have something, assuming that I'll give it to them since I have lots and lots of beauty goodies.

You're not the only one...I'm anal about germs...even my own for that matter...I'm careful with all my cosmetics when using them and wiping them off and such...for example I won't use a gloss on my lips and proceed to put the wand back into the tube...I'll wipe it clean first....I just can't stand the idea of what a breeding ground of bacteria the gloss is:P

I'm the SAME way babe! I hate people touching with fingers and I also like to be in control of the situation where they aren't going through stuff...that freaks me out as I know where everything is and it's in order, etc..!

I'm VERY possesive about it. I don't mind sharing eyeshadow too much, but anything lip based and mascara based really annoys me. The other week a friend of mine used my brand new clinique concealer on her cold sore, and I had to throw it away because I don't want a cold sore! Fifteen quid wasted! I also got really wound up by my bosses girlfriend using my eye make up the other week at work, she's lovely but she doesn't wash that often and eats stuff off the floor, I don't want her ruining my beautiful nars and givenchy stash!
