2008 Year End Reflection

It feels like the year virtually flew by doesn't it? It's been a great year for makeup that's for sure! My year end favorite post is upcoming shortly but I thought we could reflect on a few things first!

Some of the questions I asked myself as I was reflecting were the following:

The Muse will place her answers here and you can answer, if you like, in the comment field below! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this!

I think I have to take myself all the way back to Spring 2008 to get a good idea of my very favorite collection of the year. The Etude House My Lovely Face Collection (aka Peach Collection) was my absolute favorite of the year! And it's no wonder with it's great packaging, fresh peachy shades, and incredible Pore Erasing Peach Base! This was by far my fav of the year! Etude House Spring 2009 I Can't Help Smiling is simply adorably but in the Muse's opinion it isn't nearly as kawaii as last year's collection!

In reflecting on my tastes and whether they have changed or not from last year I'd have to say a loud YES! I embraced more natural looks this year, got really excited about nudes and neutrals, and just dramatically altered my normal bold looks to include some very mature ones! So yes indeed my tastes have changed a tad bit. This doesn't mean I don't still adore bold looks but I have to say I've surprised myself with the amount of natural makeup I've taken on lately!

Unquestionably my greatest cosmetic find of the year was NARS Blush in Super Orgasm! I've heard rants and I've heard hate but I simply adored it. For me it was pure perfection! Not that it tops Super Orgasm but discovering that Urban Decay Primer has a SLEW of product left in the bottle after slicing it open is definitely a highlight of my year as well!

I can't say so much if I embraced any trends this year. I kinda march to the beat of my own drum and I'm not one for embracing a trend but more along the lines of doing my own thing! One trend I definitely couldn't get a handle on, no mater how hard I tried, was the vampy lip! I tried with MAC Binge and tried again with the Lancome Piha Collection but it just didn't work on this Muse!

I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't somewhat excited about the MAC Hello Kitty Collection! Although I made up my own little ideas about how this collection should look, I do find myself getting more and more antsy for it's release as I am eager to see it in person for myself. Yes, I know I'll be disappointed but I just can't seem to shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, it'll be great! I'm also excited to see what the Summer has in store for us! Summer releases are a great time to stock up on bold shades so of course I look forward to what MAC, Urban Decay, and other brands have on the menu for the warmer weather!

Now it's your turn.....

Tell the Muse all about what you loved and hated in 2008?

What your greatest find was?

What trends you embraced?

I'm listening!

Really good questions to reflect on...I will say that I no longer swap because I rarely buy things I that don't work for me. I've been lucky and do my research (a big nod to you!) before purchasing (for the most part).
But now to the nitty gritty! I just read on The World's Dresser that they changed Dr. Who! What does this mean to you??? I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about this:P

I hated the fall trends, especially the vampy lip as well! Its so unwearable where I live...people are too conservative here.

Greatest find is probably the Kiss Me Heroine liquid liner :) So much easier than gel liners to apply and remove.

For 2009 I'm looking forward to the pastel trends for Spring! Also like you, I'm excited to see the Hello Kitty collection even if I don't end up liking it.

My favorite collection of '08 have been MAC Cool Heat and OPI France Collection.

My tastes have changed from natural(ish) to bolder. Don't get me wrong, I have always used color, but now its just more.

My greatest find this year is NARS.

As far as trends, I embrace the dark, vampy nail trend (and luvz it), but not the dark, vampy lip trend.

I am excited about the MAC Blonde, Brunette, and Redhead collection and the Too Faced Spring Collection. And I'm sure there will be many more thoughout the year that I will be excited about.

LOL muse! I agree with you Etude House Spring Collection is totally sweet! Not only the products look cute but they ARE good as well!

Hmm my greatest find for foundation 2008 is probably Silfique Cream Foundation (Silfique is a line under POLA). It is moisturizing and feel so light on my skin, i don't feel made up at all! And the best part is it last me the whole day even without putting on any loose powder/touching up.

I'm thrilled to find out Gransenbon blushers are utterly lovely and I'm glad I bought the shade in 13 (cherry fromage) which i've been using most of the time :)

And the best Xmas collection I tried for 2008 is none other than Beaute De Kose Fantasist Collection (Makeup Coffret) Sweet deal! SGD69 for 5 goodies in total and they all rock!

Ohh, so much great stuff in 2008. I really loved some of the MAC collections (N, Fafi, Heatherette, Neo Sci-Fi, Mineralize blushes and eyeshadows, Monogram, the Christmas collection....)

What your greatest find was? Even though I loved all the MAC stuff, my best find was my Dior Eyeshadow Quint in Earth Reflection. Amazing eyeshadows.

What trends you embraced? I started using gel liners and I love it! I also started using bolder nail colors, and I cut my hair short!

Me tooooooooo! Yay for soft colors! Hey at least if we hate we'll be crowing at how much $ we saved lol!

What a great thought-provoking post!!!

My favorite collections of 2008 had to have been the N Collection from MAC way back in January. I loved all of the neutrals!!! Nanogold had to be my absolute favorite! Also, Red She Said from MAC in September was fabulous!!!

Really though, this past year, I embraced the neutrals. I superbly pale, like Edward Cullen pale, and I sensed that it was time to move on from brights and tone down my look to something sophisticated with a just a hint of color. I found out that I can do an awesome neutral smoky eye (really fast!!!) that I can play up or down for school or work or going out... I also realized that I will always be a blush-whore. I LOVE BLUSH! (90+ blushes and counting!!!)

My greatest find of the year? Probably Anastasia Brow Powder in Brunette. It's seriously changed my life... since it's the only brow shade ever to look natural on me!

I hopped on the mineral train this year. I first tried EDM in the summer... found out that none of their shades look good on me! (But I still love their brushes!) I've been watching QVC since I was a little 5-year-old insomniac... but finally took the plunge this year and ordered off of the Q with November's TSV for BE (Champagne Diamonds!). I had to try the foundation for myself as well, so I ordered the BE Getting Started Kit (in Fair) from Sephora FF. I FELL IN LOVE! Fair matches my skin perfectly and I love the look it gives my skin! Granted, my pores will always look like canyons no matter what I put on them (thank goodness I finally realized that!). I love my sparklecrack!

I'm excited for BBR from MAC, HK from MAC, and more and more MAC!!! Goodness... where am I going to get the money for this stuff!?! I know though, that one of my resolutions was to buy only the products I know I will use... so that means neutral city and blush blush blush!

Hope you have a fantastically beautiful 2009!

I don't have a fav collections because I dont really care much for a collection, rather I look at products individual. I'm also too keep for a whole collection!

Yes, I'm now much more into Nars, chanel and lots of mineral make up, before it was mostly mac and some drugstore.

Probably fyrinnae eyeshadows (cant beat the price and colours), BB cream, chanel/nars blushes as well as eye brow products which ive never really cared much about before.

I like the whole white on the bottom lash line as well as contouring! Can't say I hate any "trends".

Gotta look forward to hello kitty collections and also embracing asian make up lines more :)

Ok, 2008 was the year of learning to love lots of non-MAC makeup for me. I found my holy grail fiber optic blush brush, so I can actually wear blush. I found indelible gel eyeliners, which I love. I found foundation that actually matches my pale skin (even if it's not my MAC Moisturefix, which I still kinda miss, even if it was way too dark). I fell in love with Urban Decay and Too Faced, as well as Lush and Burt's Bees, Meow and Aromaleigh Mineral Makeup.

I HATED Everyday Minerals Cosmetics as it broke me out. I ended up hating Aveeno because of me having an allergic reaction to it.

Mine!

Fave collection - MAC Suite Array.
I love the pearlglide pencils. I bought almost all of them. It's one of a few that can stay on me. Now, I'm praying every night they bring them back before I run out of them since I didn't get back up of each one and I love everyone I have!

Changing taste - Yeah!
Before, I stay away from all e/l since I think it's too complicated and that nothing stay on me anyway. Now I'm in love! Thanks to pearlglide!
And yes! Now, I'm wearing orange theme more. Before, I'm just a pink and pink and pink girl.

Greatest fine - MAC Pearlglide

Trend I don't like or just don't get - MAC chill?
Sorry, I know many love it, I just don't get it.
Trend I love - Pastel color, bright eyes, cream e/s

Looking forward to - Nothing in particular. Not until I see them IRL. So strange I don't have the urge to buy any at all. At least for now.

Ooh how fun! My answers:
I think my favourite collection of 2008 was Shu Uemura's Mika Holiday collection. Lovely colours and the packaging featuring Ninagawa Mika's photography was to die for!

My tastes have definitely changed over the last year! I used to be a strict MAC girl and I've really broadened my horizons and tried a lot of lines that I hadn't dared spring for before!

My greatest cosmetic find is probably a tie between Majolica Majorca eyeshadow singles (Oh how I LOOOVE them!) and Chanel glossimers which I think are officially the best glosses EVER! ^_^

Trends loved: Black lipstick. I actually loved this trend. But then...I wore black lipstick in high school so maybe I was just having a flashback moment haha
Trends hated: You know, 2008 was a pretty good year for makeup! I feel like a lot of the trends really stepped out of the box (matte neon lips, bright graphic eyeshadows, black lipsticks & glosses) so I can't really say I hated any of it! ^_^

And finally, what I'm looking forward to most in 2009 is probably the MAC Hello Kitty colletion! It's not as kawaii and sparkly as I would have liked (I was so envisioning a Tarina Tarantino inspired vibe!) but I can't deny my love for Hello Kitty or MAC, so I know I'm going to go nuts over it! :P

hi elle!

Thanks! Oh noooo! N Collection was my least fav, no offense. I don't do nudes well :(

The holiday bits from red she said were awesome :)

I absolutely adore pale skin so I understand why you love it :)

I think I def still do bold but I also like being very natural with a hint of shimmer to make it fun!

My greatest find of the year? Probably Anastasia Brow Powder in Brunette. It's seriously changed my life... since it's the only brow shade ever to look natural on me!

w00t! I guess I'm a shadow whore hehe...I don't have nearly that many blushes! What a stash..maybe you'll share a pic with us!??!?!
You're so lucky you love be! I can't use the minerals as they make me itch...:( Everyone raves so much but I always get really bad itchies with it le sigh!

BBR is amazing! I've played with it and love it so far! LOL I know! Sell the soul ;) hehe!

My NY Resolution is to scale down too and only get items I know I'll use :)

Wishes right back for a wonderful New Year hun!

Thanks for sharing :)

hi Vichaya!

Really? I din't like suite array at all no offense :)

too chalky :(

I loved the pencils but hated I couldn't use them on my waterline :( Don't worry..I used to worry about pigments being gone forever but since collecting I noticed colors rotate and products come back at a fairly quick rate.

ORANGE W00t! love it!

No kid? I'm kinda loving chill..i like cool shades :) but I only like one or two shades honestly and the promo image is just weird!

I'm kinda on the bandwagon for wants at the moment too..tankfully nothing has me too too crazy to buy it :)

Thanks for sharing hun!

You're so lucky you can wear black..I just look bad :( really appeals to my inner goth!
