Majolica Majorca Fall Collection 2008: Majolook Trick On Palette Review

Majolica Majorca introduced it's Trick On Palettes in Spring 2008. They have since extended the line to include two new colors for the Fall 2008.

The two newest shades are Gr750 and BR751. Both are general catalog and not limited edition as far as I know. The Trick On Palettes are quite nice and I gave them a good review when they first appeared on the scene in the Spring however I'm not feeling the color variations for the Fall in all honesty.

GR750 and BR751

It's simply the same old stuff released again and again and again! if I put together all my Majolook Line Impact palettes, last season's Trick On palettes, plus my Majolook Illuminator palettes I could probably easily make up all four shades in the newest color selections.

I collect all the Majolook palettes released which accounts for me purchasing GR750 and BR751 but in my humblest opinion you just don't need either unless you're a serious collector and like having each release from Majolica Majorca.

GR750 and BR751

Neither palette contains pop of any kind so this isn't a sizzling eye look you'll be creating. Each palette consists of two shadow colors, one liner shade, and a "Trick On" shimmering powder. Although the shades are very Fall-like in color I just felt like they were a bit boring and as I mentioned very easy to dupe from past palettes. For instance GR750 contains shades very similiar to BR762 from the Majolook Illuminator Palette.

GR750 contains a highlighting shade in a light beige brown shade combined with a khaki green for your lid. The liner shade is a deep dark teal green and the "trick on" powder is a shimmering gold.

Wearing GR750

Although the beige brown contrasts nicely with the khaki green I felt like the teal liner created an unusual look to my eyes and layering the "trick on" shimmering powder on top of the khaki green really made a mess considering it was a lighter gold shade.

It is note worthy to mention that the all the shades are nicely pigmented in particular the khaki green and each sports that unusual creamy powder formula that most Japanese eye shadows are known for.

BR751 contains a highlighting shade in gold and a taupe color for the lid which is followed by a chocolate brown liner shade and finally a pale pink shimmer makes up the "trick on" powder. Again, a rather boring array of colors sadly. This time I felt like the taupe and gold were completely mismatched as well and in particular the liner shade just doesn't go with the base lid color. This seems to be such an unusual and weird cocktail of colors.

Wearing BR751

Sigh.

I do have one major rave for each palette and that would be pigmentation and ease of blending. The formula on the Trick On palettes seems very different compared to previous variations of the Majolook palettes and I find they are quite nicely pigmented and they blend very well! Yes, you do have to layer quite a bit to get good color payoff with other Majolook palettes but I felt like two strokes of color or even one with the Trick On palettes was all you needed to create a nice deep color on the lid.

All in all I was pretty disappointed with these. If you're a big collector of MJ palettes you'll want to add them to your collection but if you're purchasing them simply for color selection alone it's safe to skip both palettes in my humblest opinion. I felt like both selections made my eyes look tired, boring, and blah.

Oh well!

Have you tried Majolica Majorca Trick On Palettes?

Love 'em?

Not really?

Are you stashing or trashing the two new color selections?

You guys have been awful quiet lately ;-)

Tell the Muse! She's listening!

Stay tuned for next week for more Fall Japanese Collections!

You just saved me some money! I was going to get these, but they are a bit "meh" when seen close up- thanks. I'll divert that cash towards some Kate Deep Trap palettes.

I am SO impressed with all the FOTD's you're creating! I can't understand where you got the time! Do you have one of those Hermione Time-Turners? Shame on you not sharing! ;) :-* (You are always gorgeous. I mean, I could do that amount of FOTD's - but they would look like crap! LOL!)

I love majolook trick on palette!! I only have one of them though, I forgot the code but it's a combination of pink, blue, white and brown. absolutely love the texture. my mum loves this series too and Im getting some for her, but most probably not these two on your review as my mum has stacks of eyeshadows, I'll go for the older colors ^^

i've never liked MJ's eyeshadows. i think their quality is a little subpar. and the colors they launched this season looks suspiciously familiar.

having said that, i must say the green looks gorgeous on you :D

Hi Izzy!

Just to update you, me bought both of this palette as I don't have much colours like this. The BR742 is blah to me becuz i have so many shades like that, but I quite like the PK740 after thinking bout it the whole nite. I think i will buy it! Too bad the GR741 is LE, can't get my hands on it :(

I might get the base! Kate's base is such a mess cuz of the white fibers which never turns transparent :(

And I think I wanna stock up on MJ Lash Expander! It's such a hit & i'm worried it gets OOS and i have no where to buy!

Perhaps I'll try the Enamel Neo too :D I can't resist!

A picture of my haul in my blog to be up by today! Do check!

Have a great weekend!

love love,
plue

hi plue!

I really didn't like these so I'm pretty surprised you indulged. I just felt they were a bit blah!

GR741 was not too bad. Did you mean the mascara base?

I simply adore expander so I understand the feeling :) I stock up on it myself so I don't have to pay costly airmail everytime I need another one!

I'll head over right now!

Love ya!
Hugs!

My question on collections in general. Dont the eyeshadows, gels and cremes go bad? How long can we keep them? Wont it be a waste as most of the time we cant finish one palette or lipstick anyway? I bought 5 collections in 2008 and am getting a little worried about expiry dates now.

hi anonymous

Depends on how you store items. I'm anal about storage and labeling my makeup with date of purchase etc......powders last 3-4 years so you'll probably use it all before that as for gels, cremes, etc...those are only good for about a 1 year so def label them and be sure to take care with bacteria and such. don't put hands that are unwashed in the product, wipe down applicators, etc....

so long as you take good care of your makeup it'll take good care of you...rule of thumb always toss it if you use it often as that means chances are that germs/bacteria are breeding on it.

Hope this helps!
