Mario Badescu Silver Powder

Silver Powder.

What's it do? Who's it for? How do I use it?

Sounds like something you might find in a jewelry showcase eh?

My skin is fairly clear and I doesn't really give me too much woe. I take super good care of it and that could be the reason that I'm not crying over it at night.

I suffer from one main problem that I've had for years and nothing really helps it. Blackheads. On my nose.

I don't have a ton of blackheads but I have about two stubborn ones that won't go anywhere. I've tried just about everything even having them professionally extracted only to have them pop back up over and over and over again!

Nose strips. Don't work.

Various lotions and potions. Don't work.

Extracting them? Works temporarily but they pop back up like an ugly penny!

They bug me really bad. I guess you can't really see them unless you have a 10X zoom but I know they are there and for me that's enough!

I was busy blabbering about blackheads in my Biore PJ Party post a few weeks ago remember?

And a lovely reader and friend, Gezebel, had suggested Silver Powder.

Hmm....a solution maybe????

I rushed to Mario Badescu's site to check this out!

I happily ordered it as it's only $12 bucks USD so what's the harm right? I also crawled the internet for a coupon so I saved $1.80 USD with a coupon code I found! YAY me!

I got this super fast. Within a day it was on my door step! Go Mario Go! Props for awesome shipping time.

More props for the awesome freebies my box came with. They included a mini slew of all sorts of skincare wonder that I've never tried. I got a Cucumber Tonic Mask, some Enzyme Cleaning Gel, Moisturizer, Cucumber Cleansing Oil and some Eye Cream! Wahooooo for freebies! The Muse likey samples!

Anyway about that Silver Powder I mentioned....

Well. The verdict is in and I like it.

It didn't work the 1st time or the 2nd time for that matter. It was however successful at turning my nose a strange pale white color temporarily.

However, that 1st and 2nd use did "fade" the blackheads. I know weird but the effect was interesting. I really had to look to see them. So I went from viewing them in my 10X mirror to hauling out the big guns and peering at them with my 12X! Yup sadly those two evil suckers were deeply embedded in my nose.

But I wasn't giving up!

Last night I attempted a 3rd run with Silver Powder. It deserves to be mentioned that several people around the internetz mentioned that using silver powder and proceeding to use a nose strip seemed to pick up more blackheads and that's what I did the first two times without too much success!

However, this third run I just applied, waited 10 minutes, and washed off with a wash cloth.

And....mmm..pretty successfully this time around!

My nose is looking pretty darn good. I do see a tiny bit of one blackhead that's sorting hanging on but I think I can successfully wash him away with a final run of Silver Powder!

So how do you use Silver Powder anyway?

Basically Silver Powder is just a white loose powder sorry to disappoint but no silver here. Basically you take a dampened cotton ball and dab it into the loose powder. You proceed to take the cotton ball with the now damp Silver Powder and pat it on your nose (I rubbed it a bit as well). This creates a bit of a mask over your nose (or if you prefer you can of course use it on any clogged pores you have on your face! I only have blackheads on my nose so that's where I used it!). You live this on for 10 minutes and wash with cold water after the time is up! Some folk like to use a nose strip afterwards as I mentioned above and that works very well but I found just washing it off works just as well!

The verdict?

The Muse Approves of Mario Badescu Silver Powder! It takes a bit of elbow grease but with a little patience you can happily kiss your Blackheads goodbye plus it's $12 bucks for a HUGE supply! This stuff will last you a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers to that!

Thanks for the review! For the past week or so, I've been contemplating this and the Buffering Lotion, or whatever it's called (ever since being put on Thyroid hormones, my normally smooth skin has gone hay-frickin-wire!). I know the main ingredients of this stuff is calcium carbonate, (i.e. chalk). I wonder if I could get the same effect with a can of Bon Ami. What?!? It gets my counter tops super-clean, OK? Maybe it'll do the same for my face! It's worth a try...

How was the shipping cost for MB? Is it reasonable?

Hopefully, you won't mind sharing the the discount code, y/y?

My pleasure Mandy!

LMAO Bon Ami!? Jesus why not ajax? LOL!!!!

$5.95 for shipping which is shit :( I was pissed the shipping was so much but I'm at least happy with the product. It hasn't completely done the job but it's definately working better than anything I've tried prior to this. My nose is literally sparkling ;)

Hell no! of course I'll share anything for you!

coupon code is: RETAIL

Ajax?!? Who do I look like, Donald Trump?!? A bit too rich for my blood, thank you very much. I'll just stick to mon amie, Bon Ami, si vous plait! *pops open can*

At least you know what Bon Amie is; everyone else I ask shakes his or her head out of confusion or pity: 'Bon-a-what? Lord, she's speaking in tongues again, Cletus!'

$5.95 is not so bad cosnidering what Besame and Lush will charge you.

Luckily, I live 10 minute drive away from a Badescu stockist (though I'll dearly miss those samples).

I've been curious about this as I've heard many people talk about it. Thanks for clarifying exactly what it is and how it's used-sounds like something I should look into!

When I get the chance I'll have to tell you about my duty-free haul since my mother's finally back from Korea!! Nothing exciting but you did help to make some of my selections with your "Jen-inspired" post :). Love ya and glad to see all the new posts!

Hi! I love all things Mario Badescu (it helped clear up my skin). I use the silver powder and I just wash it off which is easier. Sometimes when a zit crops up, I just put some silver powder on it and leave it on the spot overnight. Not a pretty site but it works for me. And yes, I love, love the freebies <3

I've used this one too and I don't see the blackheads disappear, however the powder makes them less visible and actually more brownish than black. I should use this more often *sends a reminder to myself* :)

Now I'm wondering about the silver powder... extractions are never fun, but they do get the job done, i think there is a mario here in nyc, wonders if i can get it there in person and skip the damn shipping

this product sounds exactly what I need. i have a lot of stubborn blackheads on my nose that keep coming back :( But damm, i just checked out their shipping costs and they are quoting an insane amount for international shipping....Of course they said it depends on location so I emailed them to find out. Haven't gotten a reply yet though.

hi Mandyz!

My mum is a clean freak which accounts for my education on good cleaning tools lol!

At least Bon Ami sounds tre chic where as AJAX doesn't have that french twist of sophistication!

Agreed. So for a large ass jar I paid 'bout $17 something and a bit of change.

If you try this do let me know what you think! Curious!

hiya nikki!

Hmm that sounds interesting! I didn't think to use it as a drying agent for pimples ;) good idea! This stuff works pretty well! It hasn't completely removed the blackheads but it's definately done a proper job of it over a few applications!

Thanks for the comment :)

hiya Emelie!

Honestly I didn't see them disappear either but they did fade and one is completely gone while the other is slowly coming to a head if that makes sense! I think it takes a few applications before they are all gone ;)

hi Anonymous!

Japanese Girl is my miracle blackhead buster but it sadly has done nothing for two stubborn ones that hang out on the tip of my nose :P so this is officially making life easier ;)

This is my first experience with MB. Definitely doesn't stop me from using sweet japanese girl but it's nice to have an alternative as well ;)

LOL why thank you! I'm flattered ;) *hugs* I'd try both to see if I were you. Sweet Japanese Girl for less stubborn blackheads and MB for more stubborn ones that won't go away ;)

Thanks for the lovely comment!
