I am shocked that Costal Scents would treat a customer like this!! Even with the fact that she has promoted their products and brought them many, many sales from doing so. If it was not for YouTube, that company would not be even half of what they are today!
Seeing this video has guaranteed that Costal Scents has lost me as a customer for good! There is no way I would purchase that Silica Sphere crap anyways, but the sheer fact that they would call this girl out and accuse her of misinforming the world and calling her names is ludicrous, unwarranted and unprofessional.
I don't want to associate myself with a company like that in this day and time. It is very much a legitimate concern and there are articles above and beyond the World Wide Web that illustrate such health and safety concerns over such a product. No way would I order from a company that has complete lack of moral and judgment over legitimate concerns over this product.
For them to attack and chastise Erica for informing us about the potential dangers on a personal Vlog is ludicrous, unwarranted and unprofessional. They have proven themselves to be irresponsible in addressing the appropriate concerns about the product. Copy and pasting information from Wikipedia does not make these buffoons at Costal Scents any more informed than the next Joe Blow.
If they gave a flying *&$! About the actual health concerns that people have, they would have addressed such concerns about the product in a reasonable and professional manner. Of course that is not even close to what they did! Just because FDA slaps a label on it, doesn’t mean someone can just smear it all over their body in any quantity, if a consumer does not know how to use the product correctly, Coastal Scents is liable for putting that customer in danger!
Okay, I’m done with my rant I think. I just think in this day and age, companies like Costal Scents should nurture their relationship with the customer and not condemn them for questioning their products and their safety. This is our body people!!

Uhm wow.
I don't think I'll be purchasing from Coastal Scents again.

How horrible.

It sounds like Kathy from CS had a knee jerk response to someone talking about her, and didn't understand exactly what it was that was being said.

Muse, that's the wrong link. That discussion is junk because the coastal scents owner keeps deleting comment where people question their professionalism. You should direct people to

http://community.livejournal.com/mac_cosmetics/29845880.html

http://www.specktra.net/forum/f167/coastal-scents-controversy-please-watch-130957/

It looks like silica may not be as dangerous as though but the issue at hand is how unprofessional this company is and how they keep going after people who do not like some of their products. All the information can be found in those two links.

By the way, HI!

OMG, I can finally actually post. I've been around here everyday, yea I know I'm a loser. But for some reason my comments wouldn't go through, I would try a couple times but then I'd get tired of writing everything over and over. I even tried to cheat by just copy and paste =)

I won't be buying from CS anymore. They're so rude and unprofessional and they obviously care more about making money than their customers. Thanks for posting this video!

I've been following this the whole way through - I thought CS were a shady company anyway - Kathy (CS owner) seems to spend a hella long time finding people on youtube who don't like her products and bashing them. Then this happened - I can't see CS going on forever because their customer service is awful!

Oh, my. I saw her first video and I'm surprised at how aggressive CS has been, as she really wasn't being offensive, in my opinion. I've never used the CS dupe but I love, love, love MUFE HD. Now I'm getting concerned that MUFE HD could be a carcinogen as well - granted, I'm cautious about not inhaling it when I use it, and I only use a tiny amount once a day... Muse, I'm just wondering if you've heard anything about MUFE's powder that should encourage me to discontinue using it.
Thanks :)

I think that the coastal scents people are unprofessional and I dont't think i will ever order from them anymore. Sorry, but this is not the way you treat your clients. That girl was not a random girl from youtube, she was doing tutorials with their products!

This was bound to happen...at the very least a heated debate about silica products. However, this is a bit different! If what the youtuber said in her video true, then it's highly unprofessional of Coastal Scents. Plus, I believe that what the youtuber said is correct, this will bite them in the ass for attacking a customer, if true (or not - personally, I think the damage is done). It's really too bad when something that should be fun turns political (and possibly carcinogenic). I get enough of that sh*t at the office to bring it into my personal life.
Interesting & thanks for posting Muse! Hope your having a great week:)

hi LostinBubbles!

Supposedly it's not the first time either :(

I agree with you on your youTube observation. It seems many of their more loyal readers are youtuber's which in fact are promoting them.

Having a difference of opinion plus offer valid info about a product shouldn't be a cause for such an uproar from CS.

Amen! Couldn't have said it better myself girl :-D I agree 100%! Bravo!

hi creampuff!

Thanks for the updated links hun!

Mostly, I agree, it's the amount of professionalism with how it all was handled...virtually none.

I've had one run in with CS before about a topic I won't discuss but it left a bad taste in my mouth to say the least :P

and HI! back :-)

Since watching this video, I've looked into it a little more. Coastal Scents should be extremely careful...legal issues are just around the corner. Needless to say, I've never purchased anything from them, nor will I ever. These attacks on people giving their opinions is ridiculous and again, highly unprofessional. I like LostinBubbles post...well said!

hi kerri!

I'm quite concerned at how they handled the situation as well. someone needs a chill pill :)

I haven't heard anything about MUFE but honestly I doubt a big company like MUFE would put your health at risk that could be a major lawsuit :) I'm sure it's perfectly fine so don't worry too much! If I hear anything I'll be sure to post hun!

hi Anonymous!

Exactly. I agree 100%! You'd think they'd appreciate the good reviews and anything poor is a way for them to work on improving their products!

sheesh!

hi aestheticcoo !

thanks hun hope you're well is going well too!

Honestly, this isn't the 1st time from what I understand! Seems they are quite run to customers...as for me I've had a run in with them once and it left a rather bad taste in my mouth so it's no chore to avoid the company :P

Well, If CS wanted to pop off at her, then they are reaping the rewards! I think they will lose alot of customers, not for being an *ss to her, but for obviously not caring about the safety & well-being of their customers. A company that is doing things safely and properly would never need to be defensive or rude. Way to go CS, I hope you enjoy bankruptcy and unemployment!!! Customer service should be #1.......

I forgot, but I did want to say thanks for keeping us informed. I am thankful that there are bloggers who question safety and purity of products!!! At the very least, It will keep the makeup companies honest, hopefully. I think we SHOULD always question product purity and integrity, and we should always look out for one another. I will make it a point not to ever own CS products, so there will be no worries about their products.

paige!

agreed it's a bit scary when legal issues come into play...they really need to be careful with this as it could come up to bite them in the ass :(

I personally never ordered from the site after emailing to relay some info to them about a review and getting a snarky reply in return...so I can vouch for the CS not being all that :P

hi leane!

Well said hun! It's an interesting turn of events and their have been question about their CS in the past this just pushes the fact home...and as for ingredients and safety..absolutely! It's right scary that something you're innocently believing is good for your skin could cause major damage!

whoa! not cool!

my pleasure Janet...it's not to say there CS is awful as I really haven't ordered but I did have one experience that wasn't too great so I avoided finally ordering but this doesn't speak to highly for them :(

you'd have thought that CS learned the first time that they needed to practice more professional business mannerisms, but apparently they have not.

Kathy continues to bash people through e-mail and her forum.
I really want to know how she continues to have a job, when she consistently acts like she's in middle school.
You're a business, start acting like it.

I put a complaint into the better business bureau before when all this happened, and i urge you all to put in another complaint with me now. I really don't care about their silica powder, I can buy the same one from an E-Bayer from Asia.
I think the interesting thing is Erica never directly criticized or opposed CS, just talked about silica powders. So she may not have gotten her information right, but she did in no way slander or bash the company, they seem to be doing that so successfully all on their own.

hi anonymous!

Extremely unethical business practices...! quite reminds me of Alexa from IoE. rant rant!

It's not exactly fantastic to act like you're 14 year old and bash on people via email and forum, grow the freak up.

and from what I seen erica seems like a very sweet girl who was expressing her opinion...she's entitled :P

I wish I could join the fight but I've never actually ordered from them. I briefly emailed them stating that I'd be reviewing a product from their line but I got a bit of a snarky reply and decided against it :P

so not worth the headache!

Oh snap!

I love Erica; she's like a white Whitley Parish!

Why would Coastal Scents want to piss off customers in this economy? I was thinking of purchasing some more products from CS, but now I'm not sure that I want to.

I've ordered CS brushes in the past and they are REALLY low quality; MAC and Shu Uemura are not going to be losing any sleep and even Essence of Beauty laughs in their general direction. Also: their badger brushes? I happen to own real badger brushes and that ain't badger: it's DOG!

That said, I'm less concerned with Silica than I am with Boron Nitride. That shit is evil -avoid it!

I am a make up lover, as well as hold an account on youtube. My channel does not only do make up tutorials and reviews but I have done some. I am also a former customer of Coastal Scents. Note I said FORMER.
I have been following this as many have. What is the main thing about all of this? Well, to me- the unprofessionalism of Kathy from Coastal Scents. She has a history of bashing people who do reviews and don't necessarily like an item they have purchased from her site. *Phew glad I didn't ever do that Brush review. She might have hunted me down.
Anyhow, We have this video now with someone simply just giving facts and information for her own viewers. What happens? Kathy decides to be a completely immature about this and give thumbs down on the video and call this customer ignorant. To me that is just awful customer service and horrible representation of one's company. Almost all of the things sold on Coastal Scents can be found on other sites as well as on Ebay anyway. A company in China is who makes it. NOT CS. I did my own personal search on ebay and google and found a ton of 88, 78 palettes as well as the same exact blush palettes that CS sells.
I'm just saying... if people enjoy what they sell on the CS site, they can find it elsewhere. They are just sellers of something that is highly distributed from a seperate company.

hi mari!

I totally agree with you ebay is a fountain of these palettes so I don't get why everyone is so hyped and hipped about them when they are available just about everywhere!

Thanks for your comment Mari :) It's always great hearing what people are thinking!

Hey Musey?
Do you have any idea if the gel eyeliners I have from Coastal Scents are safe?

And any thoughts on who actually manufactures them?

I feel like an idiot, because I thought that CS made them, but they do not.

not sure hun! I really haven't a clue. I don't think they make them it's probably from china or something...try emailing them and asking for an ingred list? or does it list on the site?

I honestly haven't a clue who puts them out though :P
