Bobbi Brown Metallics Collection
Bobbi Brown's Fall Eye Palette Collection are out and available for purchase this week.
I believe that I had sworn myself off Bobbi Brown for the rest of this lifetime and my next one after my fiasco with the Sand and Surf Palette (go on click it you'll see the drama I mean)!
But it seems that I'm a glutton for punishment because I decided that I'd just have a tiny sneaky peek at these new palettes when I was breezing through Nordies, I do that occasionally, breeze through department stores, I'm that fabulous!
Where was I?
Oh ya, Bobbi Brown!
Yours truly wasn't happy enough sneaking a tiny peek! The Muse got a bad case of Limited Edition anxiety and ended up purchasing 3 of the 4 palettes (she wants the fourth by the way).
So the sales girl sold me some gimmick that these are tripled pigmented. I've never heard of anything being tripled pigmented but ok it sounds good to me that must mean I need these right? Obviously that was the case because I walked out out of the store swinging a $150 bag of palettes! Somebody stop me please!
All in all I have to say that these are pretty brilliant. I think this is Bobbi Brown's apology to me for the crummy Sand and Surf. I've come to the conclusion she may have just realized how it truly sucked and decided she must redeem herself in the Muse's eyes thus she created the Metallics Collection.
Ok first of all these may very well be tripled pigmented. These have some heavy duty color going on here. Color so bright, vibrant and eye popping that one swipe of my brush is all I need, no going back for second swipes!
Secondly, if you're insane for shimmer, these are the palettes for you! Highly, intensely shimmer packed! I'm talking fall out all over your cheeks and face! The SA I spoke to said apply the shadow prior to my foundation because I'd need some serious clean up time with these! And she is indeed right! These have to be applied super carefully to avoid a ton of chunky shadow falling all over your face! These are really an interesting texture. Very thick for a shadow but also loose. It's almost as if the shadow was a loose pigment and pressed into the palette. As soon as you swipe a brush across a color it comes away with a ton of loose powder!
I haven't really used these yet on my eyes just swatched them on my hand and all in all I have to say these are a big thumbs up for me! If you're currently looking for the perfect Fall palette I'd totally nab one or two of these.
The good news is the Muse approves and gives them a big fat recommendation for purchase. The bad news is these are costly as hell at $45 per palette!
I personally recommend all four if you have the spare change hanging around but if you don't I recommend going with either Forest Metallics or Burnt Sugar Metallics.
Burnt Sugar is probably the most versatile. It has a really good solid gold in it that can be used with just about anything you currently have. Of course the entire point is to use the palette's three colors but you can easily take any of the three colors and use them with single shadows you may have. This palette is quite interesting to pair up with browns, golds, and even oranges or peaches!
The other two I got were the Forest Metallics and Midnight Metallics. Now the Velvet Plum palette is a mystery to me as it looked almost identical to the Burnt Sugar except darker. I didn't notice any plum in it just brown, brown, and more brown! I'm still tempted to purchase it as that weird Pokemon feeling comes across me with cosmetics. You know the feeling right? Have to collect them all!
Well..I leave you with some pictures and a first impression! I'll get around to doing a deeper review when I used them on a full eye look plus do some FOTD's!
Forest Metallics
Midnight Metallics
Burnt Sugar Metallics

Oh u've posted your review! :) Forest looks yummy! But how much Burnt sugar looks dull?? Great buys as usual!!!!! *hugz*
I'm really tempted by these palettes! They look similar to those Lunasol Geminate Eyes ones. But the price sort of scares me away, and I don't know why since I've spent this much on Japanese cosmetics! Maybe it's because Japanese makeup isn't readily available and is worth the money in my book. ;)
I have a similar story to your Sand & Surf palette fiasco. My ordeal was with its precursor, the Sandwash palette. Very similar, but different colors. (Here's a link: http://www.thisnext.com/item/E449AA28/Bobbi-Brown-Sandwash-Eye ) The thing had no pigment at all. I had to call Nordstrom.com to ask a question about returning it, and they were nice enough to take it back and refund my S&H costs! So lesson learned there - stay away from anything similar that BB puts out. I did get the Stonewashed Nudes palette and it is much nicer than the Sun & Surf and Sandwash, but it still leaves something to be desired. The colors are just so mundane. I prefer more bold looks.
Oh, and one unrelated question for you about Black Phoenix. You know how you have to "plea your case" or something to get the three special LE oils from the Trading Post? Will they allow you to purchase all three, or do they just choose for you? I was confused about that too. Your idea of selling the shirts was a good one.
Well, sorry for the long post here!
Taryn
this really has nothing to do with todays blog (even though i've read EVERY single word haha), but this really is my fav. beauty/makeup blog. ever. i come here waiting for you do updateeee, esp on the jap stuff :P i gave up on a chance to go there with school last year, how foooolish of me >.<" anyways, just want to say how thankful i am of you doing this :)
happy day!
Oh you absolutely must do swatches! I want to see the tripled pigments.
Pets: Hey girlie! Sorry for my delay in replying to you! I owe you some messages! Will get to you soon :)
They are actually all really nice but the pics don't do them justice as the cam didn't catch the gorgeous shimmer! I'm planning on doing some new pics of 'em!
taryn: Hi there! *Hugs*
I agree! The price makes me wince something fierce! But all that shimmer made me want them rather badly! These aren't nearly as good as the Lunasol palettes! Agree again that I don't mind dropping hard money on Japanese goodies because it isn't something I have readily available!
HA! I don't know Bobbi Brown so well so had no idea they had a similar palette to the Sand and Surf or Surf and Sand or whatever the bloody hell it's called lol! See if I knew about the Sandwash palette I'd have purchased that right on the spot because the colors are just as gorgeous as the Sand and Surf one! But the pigment is next to zero! They have a baked shadow quality to them which turned me off as well! I normally do really like baked shadows but these just were amazingly crap! Funny as when you see the palette it's just so PRETTY and You sit there picturing all the looks you can do with it but sadly it's impossible! The colors all run together! It's very difficult to blend several colors they just run as one! Very weird!
BPAL is easy enough for your plea! people always get sorta confused about it! Some folk love being suprized personally I don't. I wrote to them and said very specifically saying "Please make my halloween a happy one and treat me to pumpkin cheesecake, candy apples, and some spiked punch to wash it down with...etc..etc..." I did a bit more creative of course with the asking by saying Dearest Goblins and Imps of the Underworld..."...yada yada yada...and that'll basically get you what you want! They love it to be creative. Ah ha...I was just looking through my email and here's my plea:
Dearest Goblins, Ghouls, and General Misfits of the Underworld,
I dare do say that the Sin of Gluttony must surely be my favorite of all the 7 Sins Sadly, they say that the punishment for Gluttony in Hell is being force-fed rats, toads, and snakes
Wont you make my time here in the afore life a sweet one and allow me to indulge and dine on an array of ghoulish treats this Halloween season such as candied apples, mayhap some ghostly marshmallows, and pumpkin cheesecake too
MmmI think after all this a wee bit of spiked punch to wash it all down wouldnt hurt
What say you? Wont you make my afore life a happy one when such awful things await me in my afterlife, well maybe not all awful as my other favorite sin would be Lust and Im positive all sorts of debaucheries await me in the underworld
Please I do beg, on hands and knees, make my Halloween extra sugary sweet and indulge my sweet tooth by gifting me with some wonderful treats to make it an extra horrifying Halloween
Hisses, Bugs, and Drooling Love,
The Muse
So something like that is cool! You can always just say "Hi I'd like this and that please..." but they don't really like you to do that...they prefer something silly and creative! Last year for the Treat or Treat oils I did something similar and got exactly what I wanted. Obviously they can't not give you what you want as you are paying for it lol!
I always sell the shirts off on every inquisition they do! I think it sorta kinda pays off the oils! LOL! My weird frame of mind!
Don't be sorry! I love the long post :) Please let me know what you write to them and which you get!
I got 4. But I am going back for the egg one I think! Someone went to the shop party they have monthly and smelled it. They said it smelled like flan or some sort of vanilla cake! So now I want that too *blush* I figured as much as Beth (the owner) is quite a trickster but I wasn't entirely sure if it would be foody or earthy so I didn't want to get it and be disappointed! Was happy to hear it was a foody! Back when they introduced the Paris Hilton in Jail series I was somewhat skeptical to get both oils as one was entitled pruno (google pruno and you'll see what it is) and I was scared it'd smell AWFUL! But I got it and it's a delightful blend!
I ended up originally asking for the cheesecake, the punch, the candy apple, and the other sweet one the name of which is escaping me this early in the morning hehe!
If you order any of the regular Halloween blends keep in mind it's a seperate order from your trading post one!
Beth's boyfriend runs the trading post and it's a separate venture from the Lab so they charge shipping on your trading post order and shipping on your bpal order. Must be done separate sadly :(
Are you planning on ordering from the Lab as well?
anyway this is a HUGE reply LOL!
Many Hugs!
anonymous: awwwwwwwww thank you so much! That means the world to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for visiting me and commenting! maybe one day you'll get the chance to go again! It's gorgeous that's for sure!
I'm thankful to you for reading it!!!!!!!!
Hugs darling!
karelessly in love: I'll do some on paper and post ;) hehe!
Hey Iz,
loving your haul! Shimmery, pigmented metallic eyeshadows are what we all live for, aren't they? :-) I also did some BB damage at the Woodbury CCO last Saturday but I don't see myself getting these Metallic palettes as they're just too pricey.
Thanks for your help, Muse! You're a very clever writer! I ordered three sets from BP and put my request in for each of the Treats oils. I basically said that I have a wicked sweet tooth, but sweets cause cavities and other health problems, so why not let me indulge my sweet tooth with tasty-smelling perfume oils instead?! I hope it works. We'll see what they say. I also mentioned that I heard about the site from your blog, so maybe they'll give you a discount! :D
BTW, I'm a big Japanese anime/manga junkie and subscribe to the magazine Shojo Beat. BPAL created two special perfume oils just for them called Vampire Tears and Midnight Kiss. It looks like the contest site isn't working yet, but when it is, you can enter to win them by writing about what your favorite smell is in 20 words or less. The site is: shojobeat.com/bpalcontest28. I hope they have the site up and running soon because I want to enter!
I will let you know what happens with my order. Keep your fingers crossed!
taryn! So happy to hear back from you lovie!
You're most welcome! *blush* aw I'm not so clever! Just insane lol!
I ordered 4 so we are almost in the same boat ;) Oh perfect! I'm positive you'll nab what you want ;)
I also ordered the Crypt Queen because of the rose in it. I really love the scent of Victorian rose on myself. It goes all candy like with my body temperature so the rose in Crypt Queen was appealing but I am a bit worried as pachouli is the other note! EEP!
We shall see if it works for me!
I seen those! They look interesting :) It's funny as Bpal was always about keeping it to Bpal but lately Beth has really grown and branched out! They even have two stores carrying the oils now and two exclusive scents that are made for those particular stores!
You can actually order online but the oil didn't appeal to me!
I ordered the twins from Carnival D a few months ago and was duly impressed with the rose in that lot of oils! Yum!
Sorry I can take perfume oil all day! *blush*
I can't wait till you get your order!
They said the wait time is currently at 30 days and they hope to have the trading post orders out in time for Halloween!
Last year I got mine right around Halloween so that'll be a nice treat to get ;-)
Fingers and Toes crossed!
'ello my dear Iris :)
My gosh are they ever what I live for ;) and I know, cosmetic whore that you are, love 'em just as much as I do hehe!
Fantastic haul from woodbury! Properly chuffed with your haul! Seen it and was green with envy! I was just about to comment! You have to review Peony as I was curious about that particularly shimmer brick!
Any good stila at Woodbury normally they have a few odd pieces!
I gotta say that $45 per a palette is obscene but I was so tempted and my will power to say NO went out the door when I swatched them *blush*
but the price is absurd to say the least! I'd have been happier paying $30-35 but $45 seems way to much!
I BET they end up at Woodbury after winter breaks! Than you can nab 'em for half the price *rolls eyes*
unreal!
Love ya babe!
I love rose-scented perfume! You have to let me know how you like the Crypt Queen. It's going to be a long wait for these perfumes. I can't wait to try them out (provided they allowed me to plea my case for the correct ones :P ).
Oh, and you're really enabling me with those Vintage Sister lip balms. Could you possibly tell me if their ingredients list includes parabens? I tried asking them, but they never responded to my email. I hope the balms are paraben-free. The flavors sound so good!
-Taryn
'ello love!
Me too!!!! Hehe twins :)
Crypty Queen sounds intrigueing but I'm worried it'll have an underlay of dirt smell with the pathouli (spellig?!) in it!
Don't worry I'm positive you'll get what you want!
My ears have heard that spiked punch smells like kool aid! Wahoo! I love that! Glad I pleaded for it!
Vintage Sister makes fab balms really enjoy 'em! Gosh I dunno if they have any parabens in 'em! Good questions! I'm not so conscious of ingredients at times *blush*
I'll have a look and let ya know! They should reply as they are normally good about communication!
Are you allergic or just conscious of breast cancer and such due to parabens?
Hugs!
Hmm, I emailed Vintage Sister about a week ago, but maybe I'll drop them another line and see. If you do get a chance to check the label, that'd be great!
I don't know what to think about the paraben/breast cancer study. They never did find out where those parabens came from, and I did read they're even in food. So with that in mind, I try to keep them out of my lip products, since I do bite my lips and eat off my share of lipstick. I usually use MAC or the new 100% natural BE lipsticks, which I love! So yeah, I've made changes in my lip balm/lipstick routine to keep the parabens out.
Honestly though, they've been used since the 1920s, so it's impossible to say for sure. Confusing, huh?!
Wow...that's bizaaro! Normally they have really good CS! Surely will look for ya ;)
I've read they are in food too which is why I kinda sorta thought nothing of them being in my lip balms, glosses. I eat off alot of my lipstick, gloss as well lol!
I haven't tried to the BE lipsticks! Ooo something to want ;) hehe!
Well...I don't mean to demean the threat of breast cancer in any way but really they tell us we can't eat chicken b/c of birdflu, and we should put popcorn in the microwave now because the fumes could give us lung cancer...it's a nutty world...hard to tell which is truth and which is greatly exaggerated. It's hard to tell what products, foods, etc...are good for us..or just dangerous!
Scary world!
Good news! Vintage Sister got back to me (maybe they didn't get my first email) and their lip balms are paraben-free. So I'm placing an order tonight. :D
It is so confusing nowadays, isn't it? I just read an article talking about how soy isn't good for you. And soy is in just about any packaged food you eat nowadays. I hadn't heard about the popcorn thing until you mentioned it, so I read about that today. I don't know what to think. It makes me wonder what is true and what isn't. And who knows who funds these studies?
Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the fragrance and lip balm help. Sorry about turning your blog comments section into a public forum for awhile there! :P
-Taryn
'ello lovie.
Fantastic!!!!!! I was about to look but logged on and seen your message ;)
Wahooo!
It's very confusing :( I'd go nuts if I worry about what could, could be, is potentially, or isn't good for me and my body! I kinda wing it lol
The popcorn thing totally freaked me out!
No problem at all! My pleasure! Oh my gosh please dont apologize! I love all your comments and enjoy talking to you ;) Love hearing what you purchased and what you are or aren't liking!
please chatter away! I adore it :-)
Hugs!
ps!
which balms did you get ;)
Here are the flavors I chose (hope they're good!):
Vanilla Ice Cream
PB & J
Cookies & Cream
Caramel
Candy Kiss
Devil's Food Cake
Honey
Blue Hawaii
Banana Daiquiri
Can you tell I've been craving sweets lately?! The orders I've placed at Isle of Eden, BPAL and Vintage Sister have me drooling for some candy. These foody scents are so dangerous. 0_0
Oh, and I just placed an order for some shower gels and skincare samples (they have a Chocolate Rhassoul clay mask!) from this luscious Canadian soap company called Tval. I had bought some soap from them in the past but forgot about it until the other night when I broke open their Blueberry Biscotti bar. Oh my gosh - this is the creamiest, most delicious soap ever. The only problem is they're so busy that the soap is super fresh and doesn't have enough time to cure before being sent out and can get goopy in the shower. The girls on the forum over there suggest leaving your bar to air-dry for about a week after using it for the first time.
One more thing - ever since you blogged about Lush's Snowcake soap, I've been dying for some. A lot of Lush fragrances smell icky to me, but they do have some gems and that one sounds delicious. Finding your blog has created so many lemmings that it's ridiculous. And thank goodness I don't live in Japan because Haru's blog would have me flat-out bankrupt! :P
Tomorrow I'm headed to the MAC counter because they're having a Smoke Signals event with makeovers. I already got my Smoke Signals stuff, but I have a feeling there will be something else that catches my eye!
OK, now I've really rambled!
I love your blog and your make-up collection!! *jealous*
I was doubting if I should get Bobbi Brown's metallic collection, but your review made me wanna get 'em and don't care whether I'm gonna be in debt or not, lol.
Mmmmm those are yum Taryn! Sweet haul!
Cookies and Cream is my flavorite ;)
You have to tell me how PB and J is!
Oh Tval is a fun etailer! I love the Candy Cane soap they do and the little bath treats they used to have! and Tubalicious!
The bath treats came in blueberry biscotti! It smelled yums!
I normally cure my Lush soaps as well since they are so ooey gooey soft! It always helps!
I normally stick the bar in my underwear draw so my bras and such smell nice hehe!
Oh gosh I love snowcake! It's my favorite soap in the world! I have the perfume (was LE), the powder (LE too), and soap :)
Every Christmas I get chunks of it YUMMIE!
If you're dying to try it for the scent along pick up a jar of Smitten handcream! It scented with the snowcake fragrance! Rock Star Soap is another fav of mine! Smells like a big old eraser like when I was a kid at school hehe!
Jeez Iris creates the worst lemmings in the world. Remember her Stila blog? She did that one for me LOL! That totally made me drool! She's super! Knows tons about cosmetics! It's one of my favorite blogs! Was before I met her but after becoming her friend it's even more so a favorite place to visit! She's in New York now which is extremely exciting! You know what that means?! hehe!
I was gonna go to our local smoke signals event but wasn't really up for it. Have you seen the rumors abound about the Holiday collection? It's enough to frighten me! LOL!
Ramble on my friend ;)
I was checking your profile but your email addy isn't in there!
Do me a favor email me!
I want to tell you something but don't want to post it here!
Hugs!!!!!!!!!!
Anonymous ;)
Hehehe! We shall be broke together lovie!
The palettes are too pretty for words :)
You must tell us what you think when you nab one (or 4 hehe)
Thanks for loving my blog! I'm flattered!
Hugs!
cool!!^^
i like palette green!
