Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer Review

Did you know the Muse had to recently move mountains to locate a pot of the new Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer? I know, I know I'm so damn heroic aren't I? Moving mountains to locate products to review for you guys...go on now tell me how wonderful I am!

No but seriously it was HARD finding this junk! I looked everywhere but it was either not available or sold out in the shade I wanted. Seriously, when I walk into a drugstore I think they should all bow down at my arrival, after all I am the freaking Muse but ado the memo of who I am must be delayed so each time I visited my shade was not available or I just couldn't find the product.

How horrifying.

After several weeks or maybe it was only a few weeks, I like to exaggerate to make it seem more dramatic. Anyway, after several months I finally located Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer! Bless be!

I hate all the products that come out lately that are cream but have "mineral" in their name. Does that annoy anyone? It annoys me. I associate minerals with powder not with creams and it just drives me bats when creams are called "mineral". What was I saying?

Oh yes on with the review!

The product is housed in a dual container which has a creamy concealer on top and a white setting base on the bottom. The basic design mimics Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit and Laura Mercier Undercover Pot. Actually, the product is almost as good as both of those concealers with a minor hiccup here and there.

Allow me to rant for a minute. When I first seen this concealer it was $8.49 USD...when I finally located it the price had jacked up to $13.99 USD which means I paid $15.02 USD. So not cool. So not not cool. Oh my god...$15 bucks for drugstore concealer? Not cool people, really not cool! Might as well head to Sephora for that price. Anyway I'll be nice and will say that you can probably get it on sale and save a whole lot of money. I was just impatient and I'm extremely bratty that I paid that much for it.

Formula is identical to Bobbi Brown Concealer, very emollient, very moisturizing, and heavily pigmented. This bad boy will hide it all! Dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, you name it I'm sure you can cover it with this. It doesn't crease, it doesn't fade, and it's virtually waterproof. I came home after a really long day and it was still in place. VERY good long wear on this concealer. Count the Muse impressed. The setting powder is nice and sheer but doesn't do too big a job of brightening up the eye area. I find my powder from my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Palette brightens as well as sets but hey we can't have it all.

Now....problem.....could be slight and not too big a deal but could be a deal breaker for some...I'm trying to overlook this flaw and love the concealer regardless.

It doesn't blend very well. Dunno why as the formula is pretty much the same as Bobbi's but it doesn't quite blend out as well. I had a difficult time getting it on correctly and it kind of sat on top of my eye area. After it's in place it looks good but blending is a tiny bit troublesome and I'm not entirely sure why that is. When I use Bobbi's concealer it blends in and creates a nice even finish but this just sat on top of my skin and looked quite unnatural. When I did try to blend it, it ended up smearing around and I dunno...just a mess. Minor rant I suppose since when I do get it properly in place I love the finished results and I absolutely adore at how well it conceals. The formula is quite thick so you might want to keep this in mind prior to trying it out and also remember to prep very well prior to use as it will settle into fine lines if you don't. This has a nice high SPF of 20 as well which is a plus.

All in all I liked this alot and I'm even approving it for purchase but do try to locate it on sale as I don't think it's worth dishing out $15 bucks for it, for that price you can splurge on a name brand!

Who might like it?
  • Anyone with serious under eye woes that need concealing and covering up!
  • Anyone who likes thick, creamy concealers!
  • Those who want a drugstore concealer that works.
  • Anyone who's seeking a long wearing concealer

Who might hate this?
  • Anyone who hates thick concealers!

Wow yeah, I figure if I'm paying $15, might as well buy MAC or someone else. Good review though :)

Ooh, I've been wanting to try these for a while! It sounds pretty good, but - $15?! Jeeeez, crazy. I also worry the "fair" shade will be too dark for me. I'm like a ghost... Neutrogena, please make a "porcelain" or "ivory"! Was it a good shade for you?

i may have to try this, in part because i like the idea of getting setting powder with it. i used a sample of Erase Paste all last week (because i have hardcore circles and also had broken out- eep!), and i like the formula but the colour is horrible and i'm not shelling out $26. (didja notice it smells funny?)

this sounds like what i've been hunting for. the fabulous Benefit powder is great (and i'll try to save some for summer!) but it's too dark for my undereyes.

thanks for hunting this down Musey!

Hi Muse,

It's been a long time for me to see you again. You are as hilarious as usual! Love this review! Not blending well is also a deal breaker for me as well but this looks like a really good concealer. Neutrogena is one of the very few drugstore brands that I can use but the price is borderline department store sometimes.
