Musings of Edward Cullen

WARNING: Non Cosmetic Musings ahead...

It seems like everywhere I turn lately Edward Cullen pops up. His "face" or the face Hollywood has given him is splashed all over the Internet and it's difficult getting away from so much publicity when I'm trying hard to isolate myself from Twilight at the moment.

Since I'm currently re-reading the Twilight Series I've avoided many places I KNOW Edward would pop up. Blogs, Live Journal, Forums I visit daily, youTube, Etc....

Believe you me getting away from big things like Twilight and Harry Potter is a difficult task to say the least especially considering I've been hopping around conventions the last few months where both the film and the books are splashed around a fair bit.

Among my geeker mates Bella, Edward, and Jacob are the topic of endless conversation so again I find it hard to avoid listening to spoilers. My friends are forbidden to discuss Breaking Dawn when I am anywhere around!

The good news is I've had Breaking Dawn since August 2nd and have not opened a single page nor will I until I successfully complete my re-read of Books 1 through 3. This same process occurred with Deathly Hallows by the way.

The greatest news is that I've successfully closeted myself so well that I've heard no spoilers at all about Breaking Dawn up until now...however....my curiosity got the better of me late last night.

I've been avoiding reading Stephenie Meyer's website as well for fear I'd come across some little tidbit that would ruin Breaking Dawn for me however a I mentioned above I became slightly curious and did wander on her site late, late last night/early this morning.

If you haven't already been on her site or you haven't visited the forums or you're re-reading like me and blanketing yourself from spoilers you may have missed something very important, very sad and very horrifying.

Stephenie's draft for Midnight Sun was leaked recently across the internet and it's discouraged her so much that she's put the title on the back burner indefinitely. I can't begin to tell you how sad I was hearing this.

I know how she must feel right now as I really get upset and emotional when I see people copying my content, reposting my images without proper credit, etc....My body of work is a simple blog that means so very much to me but can you imagine an entire novel that you've put your heart and soul into being stolen and handed out on the internet?

How terrible. My heart goes out to Stephenie right now as I can imagine how heartbroken she is over this.

Stephenie has generously supplied the first 274 pages of Midnight Sun for your reading pleasure. I urge you, if you're a fan, to read these pages from her site in a sign of respect for her creative body of work.

I read all 274 pages around 3:30 am this morning and I was devastated I'd never see an end to such a fascinating piece. Being inside Bella's head is a roller coaster ride that goes from one emo moment to the next. Being inside Edward's head is an entirely other ballgame (pun intended! Go Team Edward!).

Finally understanding some of Edward's struggle while he's around Bella is heart wrenching to say the least. Knowing how complex Edward's character is and finally putting that knowledge to text is extremely enlightening. Who would think teen lit could go so deep?

Being faced with Edward's maturity is an interesting experience. Although Edward is described in no uncertain terms as being mature it's always difficult to put the idea of his age into full effect when faced with mind images of his "crooked grin" and boyish good looks. However, in Midnight Sun you can finally come to understand Edward's true age and put aside his seventeen year old face and body and come face to face with his 90 plus year old mind and maturity. It's interesting to say the least especially if your mind's eye has misplaced Edward's age.

If you'd like to read Midnight Sun you can do so by clicking here. I do warn you if you're a big fan of the Twilight series you may want to avoid Midnight Sun as no end is in sight and it's difficult reading a draft that may never see it's completion especially when you become so attached to the characters of a novel.

I look forward to discussing this with you in my comment box if you happen to be a fan of Edward, Stephenie Meyer, and the Twilight Series.

However, I refuse to speak to you if you're a member of Team Jacob! The Muse no likey!

Hehe kidding!

Please no spoilers about Breaking Dawn, as keep in mind, the Muse hasn't yet completed her re-read session!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers and Happy Reading!

P.S. If Edward "dazzled" you in Twilight you'll feel the force of his glamour in Midnight Sun!

Here's to hoping this will someday see the light of a book shelf near you!

I was also sooo upset that Breaking Dawn is put on hold indefintley. I read what was up on her site, and I am dying to read more. It is really great to see Edward's point of view on things.

I don't know if I'm going to read Midnight Sun. I'm holding out hope that Stephenie will go back to MS in a few months or years when she's gained some perspective and her hurt feelings are less distracting. On one hand it really really sucks that someone leaked the book. But on the other hand, don't give out advance copies of your books, doofus.

Whatever she decides to write next, I'll buy it. It stinks that the price of success is much harsher criticism when everyone's impossible expectations aren't met.

Hurry up and finish Breaking Dawn so we can fangirl it up!

Hi! I'm for Team Edward. Love the series and can't wait for the movie to come out. I've read the Midnight Sun draft and I also feel so sad for Stephenie (and us fans) that we won't be able to read the ending of this wonderful book.

Oh a fellow book glow worm! I notice that you have Edgar Allan Poe on your shelf! What taste. I am currently re-reading Dorian Gray. I do love it so - probably a little more than one actually should! x

hi asta!!!!!

I owe you some email I think please forgive me. my inbox is truly a mess and I've been terribly busy!

I can understand not wanting to read it. I didn't want to read it myself.

I hope that she does one day go back to it as it's a rather wonderful extension of the series. I'm actually curious most about how Edward was feeling in new moon. Where he was, what he did, etc..!

True :( I wonder if it was a publisher or a friend that gave it out how sad!

I'll def buy ANYTHING she puts out. She definately proved she can do more with The Host so i'd love to see what else she can do!

Ok, ok hehe I'm getting to it. I'm in my savoring period :-) hehe!

Hi Musey-pie!

Savor away!

I think Stephenie said she wouldn't do New Moon from Edward's point of view because it would consist of him balled up in the fetal position for weeks on end. Awwww. Poor thing!

I'll look forward to your email. Take your time, I know you're busy and you must get wayyy too much in your inbox.

I just received the first 3 books by stephenie meyer to read today. I'm getting ready to start Twilight. I'll be happy to let you know what I think once I finish them, without spoilers. I'd been holding off on reading the books until a friend of mine sent me hers to borrow.

I'm a huge vampire fan. I have all of the Laurell K Hamilton (even though I've been unhappy with her later books), as well as the House of Night books by PC Cast & Kristin Cast, and Vampire Academy novels by Richelle Mead. Of course, I also love the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse novels (the tv show True Blood starts shortly!) and the Rachel Morgan books by Kim Harrison.

I love this series!! I was one of the dorks at the midnight book release..lol..
I also reread all of the books in the series and just before I started book 4 I came across a spoiler that told me the entire outcome of the book. Boo..
I'm actually not looking forward to the movie, the cast doesn't look like what I imagined them to be. Now I'm going to say something surprising..where the hell is Jacob in the movie..? He's important!!
Oh and don't hurt me..but...Team Jacob!!! lol..even though book 4 has softened me a bit towards Edward. ;)
Off to read Midnight Sun..I don't care if there isn't an ending..I don't think Stephenie will leave us hanging..she'll finish it at some point..

hey dd!

GASP You haven't yet rea d'em!? You're in for a super treat they are awesome!
I love Laurell K Hamilton as well but I feel the same..her work is repetitious and also she takes her characters for ridiculously weird rides that aren't exactly outcome friendly so to speak :P yak!

I quit reading her stuff a few years back..it was too much emotional baggage lol!

I have the Vampire Academy novels but never touched 'em yet..any good?

I'm looking forward to see how True Blood translates :)

w00t! Nice reading ;)

hi tammy!

Ditto! LOL!!!!! I'm a bit too old so I decided against it lol!

OH
MY
GOD!

That would devastate me. This is why I've avoided my normal haunts for Twilight feedback!

I like Kristen Stewart as Bella and I like Robert Pattinson as Edward however the rest I'm not sure sure about.

I think they'll take full licensed liberal with the entire book and create something completely different blah! I guess its difficult cramming 500 plus pages of a novel into 90 minutes of film!

LOL actually Jacob is there but the actor who plays him..no likey :P

Oh my god you're banned from Musings..Team Jacob!? YUK! LOL!

I'm all about Team Edward sorry dear :)

I hope she does, I truly hope she does!

Happy Reading!

Come back and discuss it when you're done!

Please don't ban me!! lol
I don't really like how Edward looks in some of the previews..they made him look kinda freaky, but not in a good way..
I'll be back to discuss once I'm done reading. =)

LOL Tammy never don't worry ;-)

They did kinda make him look bizaaro..hungry and zombie like!

EEP!

But he does have edward's "crooked" grin down fairly well ;)

Looking forward to hearing what you think of it!

I'm on the 3rd book, and I am sort of mixed on things, but I'm enjoying reading it regardless. I like Alice :) Bella is funny, Jake is fun, and Edward is sort of stubborn at times.

Team Edward

I recently got involved in Twilight Sega and I'm so loving it. Once I finished Twilight, I wen staight to Barns n Noble to pick up the rest. I hope the movie does'nt bomb. BTW, I've realy wished James Franco played Edward. He's sooo cute. Anyways, I'm finishing up Eclipse n dreading on picking up the Breaking Dawn cuz I don't want the series to end.

Hey, does anyone know if the producers are going to go back to make movies of the rest books. I hope they do it righ away cuz it would suck if they did and all the actors aged. :(

Holy cow you read fast!

I heart Alice too! What are you mixed on?

Do share :)

Blogger the Muse said...

hello ChristinaR!

Fantastic glad you're loving these :)

Mmmm I worry about the film myself too. I imagine they took quite a few liberties with the story but we shall see.

I LOVE James Franco but I dunno..can't picture him as a vampire...he got that James Dean thing going on :)

I know..I've been dragging out my reread because I don't want it to end either sigh :(

I haven't heard anything about the rest of the books but I sure do hope they will because sticking with just twilight would stink! I'd love to see the rest of the stories together unless they do something stupid in the movie and have a happily ever after ending without hinting at the next bit of the story! EW!

Or worst bring in new actors!

UGH!

I feel like some of the situations in the book could have been handled differently. I have finished all 3 books now. I feel like what Edward did when he left was incredibly stupid. While I liked Jake, I didn't like how stubborn both characters were being in certain situations, as it just didn't seem believable. Most of the stuff was pretty good, though. I'm looking forward to picking up the next book at some time in the future.

ditto dd but I guess she wrote it this way to show some growing up by Bella.

I felt Edward leaving was incredibly dumb as well but I do see where she's coming from. She's giving Bella a bit of space plus if he never left we'd never have gotten to know Jacob better :)

I agree all the characters, bella included, were extremely stubborn!

I guess she was trying to express teen angst :-)

I'm looking forward to book 4 :)

You read fast!

*blush*

I've been told I do read fast. I just read at a pace I enjoy, and sometimes I stay up late to finish books ;P

And I think you're probably right that they were all stubborn teenagers. Looking at it from that perspective helps a bit.

Btw, did you get to watch True Blood on HBO last night? It's based off the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire Series. It's actually pretty good, in my opinion.

*hug*

btw sent you an email for whenever you have time.

hi dd!

I do too don't feel embarressed :) I can get way caught up in a book and read all night long too!

;-)

It's difficult to appreciate it at my age and it could be you face the same prob. I guess being this young seems forever a go and I get impatient with it and irritated but I try to see it from their point of view :)

I did, I tivo'ed it sunday and watched it late, late last night. Not bad. I like they have SM in it although his bad southern accent makes me wince as he's British.

I can't wait to see more and how it develops!

I'll get to it. I haven't checked..I try avoiding my inbox most days lol! Musings generates way too much mail!

I'll reply soon promise!

I think that the vamps shouldn't behave like teenagers, because uhm, they'd been around for decades :P

The Charlaine Harris books are awesome, and so far I'm pleased with the series. Then again, 6 feet under was good, so I thought this might turn out to be good. The last book series I watched on tv was The Dresden Files, which was good but got canned.

Yeah, the accents are a little strong for me. I'm not used to such southern accents, but they will grow on me, I'm sure.

Lol, whenever you can get to the email, it's cool. I know you get SWARMED with emails. I just need a direction :P

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I so want to head home. My boss and I are kind of just finishing up some projects, but we're both ready to take off for the day.

September 9, 2008 at 3:06 PM
Blogger the Muse said...

LMAO agreed although if it makes you feel better you won't confuse Edward as a boy in Midnight Sun :)

Dresden Files I enjoyed myself and he was quite sexy however it was a tad tiny bit boring. They could have done a bit better with it and made it a bit more exciting. They just kept jumping into scene after scene and the plot was weak as hey!

I think given time I'll adjust to the hicky accents for sure especially as we grow to love the characters. I think AP as Sookie is doing a very good job!

lord emails are a prob for me. It's not b/c I am ignoring you it's just b/c of the bulk of email yak!

I wanna go home too..it's rainy and yak outside :P

I'm meeting friends for dinner but seriously considering pitching it for a dvd and my bed lol!

I went out and bought Breaking Dawn last night, and finished it this morning.

Turns out, I like the series. I didn't like some of the things they did with Nessie (OMFG I HATE THAT NAME!!!), but I can see why the writer used that as a tool for the greater plot arc with the Italians.

All the way through Breaking Dawn I kept wishing that we could "hear" things from Edward's point of view...that doesn't give it away for you does it? Now to know there was a whole book from his point of view planned and now it will not be complete is heartbreaking. To read or not to read...hmmmm. It will be torture to not be able to finish it!

on that same page, if you scroll down a bit it has a note that said stephenie is continuing with midnight sun but that we have to be patient because stephenie does not want to be on a deadline. she said she will also continue writing other projects and such. so she will write it and she is writing it now but she is taking her time. i was so happy when i saw that.
i hope this helps!
