Etude House Spring Collection 2008: Peach Makeup Collection Review

Etude House released a rather interesting Spring Collection this year and of course the Muse couldn't resist picking up most of it for herself!

The Collection consisted of an array of "Peach" Themed items. One item in particular that caught my eye was the Pore Erasing Peach Base. This quite reminded me of Benefit Erase Paste which I didn't have the best experience with. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment but I decided that I needed to try the Pore Erasing Base because I had convinced myself that it had to be better than Benefit's version! It's 11,000 Won for the entire jar that's under $10 USD! It's freaking huge at 0.88oz!

I tested it this morning and it's not anything like Erase Paste. It's a pre-makeup primer through and through and sadly my hope that it would have some concealing benefits were quickly dashed as soon as I got it on my skin. I don't have large pores however this is perfect for creating a smooth, matte finish on your face prior to foundation and makeup. This carries a beautiful scent of peaches as well. Understandably some girls prefer cosmetics without scent but I don't mind in the least! Whether this allows my makeup to last longer throughout the day remains to be seen but right now I'm loving this as a pre-foundation prep! The texture is quite like Smashbox Photofinish Primer but I felt like it was a bit more moisturizing and blended easier plus I didn't get a breakout after using it where as with Smashbox's primer pimples crop up! I did notice although it wasn't concealing it did lighten my face up a tad bit and almost made me appear ghost like but after applying the next stage of my makeup that effect was gone thankfully.

For the price I think it's well worth looking into and trying out if you can get your hands on it! The good news is I got a small sample of this with my purchase and I'm giving it away to the first person that comments and is willing to review it for Musings of a Muse. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this so if you're willing to review it give a yell! The first person who comments I'll ship it out to and I'll expect a review back within a week or so explaining if you loved it, hated it, etc...!

Sample of Etude House Peach Pore Erasing Base for Review!

I also got the Peach Skin Pact which is best used for setting the Pore Erasing Base. The formula is obviously very good for oily skin types and offers very nice matte coverage. Good for touch ups and setting your foundation plus the compact is so bloody cute it's no great chore to tote this around with you! I'll make proper use of this come Summer when my skin decides to take a field trip from dry and venture into oily!

My entire routine for makeup this morning consisted of using the Etude House Pore Peach Base and setting it with the Peach Skin Pact. I used no other foundation in my makeup process as I wanted to dupe the entire look from the video how to on the Etude House website. I don't normally use powder as my sole foundation since I feel like I need better coverage plus powder wears off very quickly throughout the day! I'm curious if the base will keep the powder intact all day which is why I'm experimenting going without my normal foundation! If it works I'll be doing this all Summer long as my makeup feels very light today which will be perfect for Summer! This, like the pore base, carries the sweet scent of peaches which I absolutely adore!

I got two of the Peach Cheek Blushers as well which are basically an exact dupe of Lorac's Cheek Stamp that was released last season. These appear to be very sheer but they are not. They hold a beautiful pigmentation for an item that's so cheap! The formula is a bit chalky but that's simply because it's catering to an Asian skin type that may be oily. The concept and idea of a cheek stamp is of course awesome not only for ease of application but for the cute factor! I've personally never tried Lorac's version so I couldn't say how good it is but I'm glad I decided to give these a shot. If you're unfamiliar with the concept I'll briefly explain. Basically this is a circle sponge that has blusher in the lid of the product. The sponge is saturated with the powder and you can pop it out and "stamp" it onto your cheeks for a pinch of color!

Lorac's Cheek Stamp

I ended up purchasing the eyeshadow quad that was used in the Etude video as well. It's actually not LE and is part of the normal collection but I was so juiced over the look they created using everything that I wanted to try and dupe the entire look thus this palette got tucked into my shopping list! It's basically a quad of four shimmering shades that are very sheer but can be built up. They have about the same pigmentation as a Majolica Majorca Majolook palette. The shades in this particular palette are white, baby pink, light blue, and yellow. The shadows do have the standard chalky texture most Asian brands sport but I don't mind as I'm used to this from various Japanese brands. They hold a beautiful shimmer and blend very well!

I also got the Peach Beam Blusher which reminds me of a MAC MSF. It has a metallic shimmer finish that's applies as a highlight but is pigmented enough to act as a blush! The effect is a beautiful glow! If you enjoy tanned skin during the Summer I imagine this will be very fitting for not only highlighting your cheeks but giving you a beautiful peach kissed look!

Color Me Nude Lip Concealer also ended up on my shopping list! MAC makes a similar lip concealer but in a pot form. Basically it concealers your lips and primes them for lipstick or gloss. Supposedly when your lips are primed with a concealer your glosses and lipsticks appear more vibrant and bright! As I said MAC's version comes in a pot and this just seems easier and convenient in stick form! I haven't yet tried this and will be doing a review of it shortly!

Staying on track with dupes Etude House also released Tear Drop Lash which is identical to Givenchy's Lash Sparkles and Dior's Lash Pearls. This is basically a wand that distributes little tear drops onto your lashes for a bit of an interesting "teardrop" effect! The applicator appears to be thought out a bit better than both Dior and Givenchy's version! It's a flat square plastic applicator with a tiny hole. It works quite well at disturbing the product and applying it right on the tips of the lashes! Very nice effect! I wish I can get a really close up image of my eyes so you can see the effect!

Finally I got the Peach Water Gloss which smells amazing and tastes just as good! I used it this morning and I love how well it applies. It's a bit sheer but the formula is nice and watery which makes it feel very light on the lips and not tacky or sticky on the lips!

I got some cool freebies as well which were a cellular phone charm that houses an Etude gloss and a mini toner/lotion set.

All and all I'm thrilled to bits with the collection and it cost me under $85 USD for the entire lot of goodies I got. Inexpensive cosmetics that actually work well totally make the Muse's day!

This morning as I mentioned I used almost all the collection to create a beautiful peachy pink look that's both fresh, fun, and girly! I love how the peach contrasts so beautifully with the pink in my FOTD! I'd normally never pair up peaches and pinks but this came out so well that I'll be doing so from now on!

My attempt to dupe the Etude look as seen on the video!

What I Used:

Eyes
Etude House Cute and Sexy Eye Quad
KATE Gel Mascara
Etude House Tear Drop Lash

Face
Etude House Pore Erasing Peach Base
Etude House Peach Skin Pact
Etude House Peach Beam Blusher
Etude House Peach Cheek Blusher

Lips
Etude House Peach Water Gloss

The Peach Makeup Collection from Etude House is most definately Muse Approved!

Waitaminute - are you talking about mine? How did you find it?

My plan was to build it up some more and then ask you what you thought of it but you found me out!!

I didn't want to bug you for your opinion yet because I know you've been discombobulated (according to the icon!).

Right now there's not much to read!

PS...if you know of any reputable Korean MUAers, drop me an email! I had a horrible experience with one girl from another country who had excellent feedback. She CPd me some things but kept asking me for big favors, like shipping her a bottle of practically new $60 Shu cleansing oil for free! And stupid me, I did!

I adore it. Well done Taryn! I'm going to enjoy reading it daily ;)

You can bug me anytime you want honey with anything you need/want no matter how I am feeling!

I will do. I have one that might be helpful to you! I don't mind returning the favor but not for free! I totally understand though as I get suckered into doing things for people and I end up doing them late and such and folk get pissy with me over it etc...or I end up doing it for free etc..b/c I'm too bloody nice :P

so I can relate totally.

I know a few koreans that are pretty friendly on MUA ;) I'll drop you an email! What's your nick on MUA again can you email it to me if you'd rather not post here!

That packaging is too cute for words! I'm not so crazy about the chick from the "Lovely Face" campaign; she's trying to look like Sandy from Grease and ends up looking like Mei Li from Flower Drum Song. Etude should totally have a campaign based on Flower Drum Song and call it "I Enjoy Being a Girl!". And they should ditch that freaky looking dude.

You're right Smashbox's PFP is acne in a bottle; I don't know how they manage to keep selling it.

That Pore Erasing Paste though, looks fantastic.

Where did you purchase all these Etude items? I checked a few online retailers, but they didn't have the Pore Erasing Paste, sadly.

Ooh, I got some Etude stuff from China last year (but haven't got around to using them yet; explains why I need to go on a makeup ban until I've at least created a dent in my current collection - oh yea, I'm miztgral on Cozycot by the way, haha.)

Anyway, the duo blusher thing, it looks exactly like Paul & Joe duo no.07 (not too sure about the number). If it's comparable quality, I'm sure it'll turn out really nice as a blusher built-in with highlighter. Heh.

But yes def doing the entire grease theme :)

LOL I enjoy being a girl you're nuts you realize that right. Great reference.

Me either. Also pills like crazy. 36 bucks for that crap!

Pore Erasing Paste is my new HG. I wore it with the skin pact and my face lasted all day into the night. Doing a detailed review in the AM for ya!

A mate got 'em for me from Korea. Sadly haven't run across a retailer that is selling 'em online. I was suggesting to check facial-shop.com the girl that runs it, vivian, had mentioned she might be able to get me etude but I never took her up on the offer!

good luck!

Right, Peach collection. Got it!

I'm telling you, they need to bring back Flower Drum Song! And call the new collection "I Enjoy Being a Girl"! Don't tell me that dude doesn't enjoy being girl; he's wearing almost as much makeup as the chick standing next to him.

Yeah, most primers either pill up, or vanish after an hour or so, defeating the purpose. Most bloggers are on a Monistat Chafing Gel kick right now, saying it's just as good as Smashbox's PFP, but that's just it: it's the same crap, just in a tube, at a lower price. Clarins makes a great primer, but overall, I suspect Asian companies (Japanese ones in particular) make better, more diverse primers.

Oh, I posted the 6 quirky things like you asked me to. I also rewrote and resent the e-mail; I sent that badboy from my new G-mail account (at this point I'm sick to @$!#%ing hell of Hotmail).

Funny you mention pilling...I just did a review on this and mentioned it.

Monistat Chafting Gel I haven't tried and honestly I probably. I'm scared of putting anything on my face that's suppose to go between my legs lol!

100% agreement. It's the same matte weird sticky feeling that doesn't work :P

The pore base actually freaking works which I chuffed silly over!

I agree. I think many asian girls suffer from oily skin and the market caters to that and makes much better primers than you'd find here in the US.

Plus humidity is an obvious factor in various countries.

I gots it. Will reply soon! Also read your quirks briefly but still must reply.

Lurve you.

Ah I love etude house :) Do you know how long these will stick around for? I'm going to Korea in 1.5 mo and am very very much hoping that they'll still be around.

Oh and just fyi, a won recently rose so it's more 1000W - 1 dollar, not the old conversion (over the winter a dollar was only about 800W! which was horrid because I couldn't use my credit card haha)

And if they're still around, I'll be entirely willing to cp for anyone who'd commented on this site :) I'll be back in early July and can mail from the US so it won't cost an arm and a leg!

hey musey~

haha i forgot to comment on the lip concealer as well.

is it very drying on ur lips?
cos ive got really pigmented, duo-toned lips that drives me to the wall!

i was thinking of trying canmake's lip concealer, but there were some who found it too drying.

and i dont get the idea of moisturing ur lips first, before applying that, cos i think it might cause the lip concealer to wear off too quickly.

but im not v sure cos i havent tried. haha. but i really want sth that would at least help my lips look mono-toned! haha. if that's the word for it.

*hugs~~*

hi LeAnne!

Mmmm. Are you Asian? If so you'll find that cosmetics from Japan are better suited to your skin type. Asian girls tend to have oily skin and foundations, primers, etc..are geared towards making the skin more matte. I've also noticed foundation powders are more suited to a yellow under tone of skin.

Quality wise everything is just better. Inexpensive drugstore brands are as good as posher counter cosmetics.

Packaging wise everything is better as well. If you're a package type person you'll appreciate the "kawaii" design of everything. The cheapest brands are cute and pleasing to the eye.

Not speaking of top shelf items but just drugstore brands..they would definately be of higher quality than anything you can find within the US.

Pigmentation is excellent for the price too and I find that almost all brands are very sparkley and shimmery which I appreciate in product as I adore shimmer!

Just paying less for a product and getting more feels fantastic!

Hope this helps!

Me too. I'm not sure but I'm hopeful at least until after Summer as I am requesting backups from a friend!

I hope they are around when you go on Holiday!

The won indeed rose above the $1 you're right. Sigh :(

That stinks :(

Thank you very much for that offer. I'm positive people will be excited to read your comment!

Thanks for the generous offer!!!!!

It's fine you mentioned it :) It was very kind of you to offer! I may take you up on it myself ;)

Thanks so much!

hiya wen!

Lip concealer is very nice. I didn't find it too drying. It covered up my lips well!
After applying gloss on top I didn't feel it drying out or drying my lips!

I don't normally moisturize myself. Seems pointless and I agree makes stuff wear off :P

It's really inexpensive so it's worth giving a try ya know?

I'm sure your lips are gorgeous silly girl :)
Hugs! Happy Monday!

i recently became a fan of etude house as well. i visited korea recently and saw their cute little pink shops everywhere i went (similar to how you'd see a bath and body works in the u.s.). the prices are definitely unbelievable! i don't wear any makeup, but i am obsessed with skin care products. i walked in, ready to put down at least $60 for their products. everything i bought, the entire regimen (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, mattifier), totaled 36000 won (that's about $36 US). i just broke into them the other day, so i can't really comment on the quality, but i am loving them so far. and the number of samples i got from my purchase...!!!

another product of etude house that i love (and am currently kicking myself for not getting while i was in korea) is their new aqua drop sun guard. i tried a sample, and it was the best sunblock i have ever used in my life! most of the sunblock i get here in the states, even the "better" ones or the kind blended into moisturizers, always leave a slightly disgusting residue. theirs was like i was putting on lotion, period. it blended well, and no stickiness whatsoever!!! i'm still searching for a similar product stateside, but i'm not really keeping my hopes up (i'm open to any recommendations!).

hi jkim!

Sorry for the delayed reply. Your awesome comment slipped under my radar :)

I WISH I could go :) I'd love to see the shops as I've seen pics and they are so cute!

The prices are ridiculous for such high quality cosmetics!

I pictured the moistful line and it cost me about the same plus airmail shipping! Surreal right?

I got a slew of samples too! A mask, shower gel, a cell phone lipgloss charm, etc! So awesome!

I haven't tried the sunblock but you have me lemmin' it now :) I'm always on the look out for good spf care.

I agree! I always get a rather greasy or oily or sticky residue!

I wish I had a rec but I've had the same experience as you and nothing else will do aside from Japanese brands I've used.

Asian cosmetics are much higher quality drugstore wise vs what you can get here in the US at the counter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the comment ;) and sharing the love of etude house!

muse! this comment is about a month late, but i was doing some late night "research" (a.k.a. web surfing) and guess what i just came across!!!

http://blog.naver.com/etudestory/40051307122

that's from etude house's own blog. you're famous!!! basically, it's talking about the increasing popularity of korean cosmetics worldwide, and it highlighted your review of their peach cosmetics line.

it starts out with a general description of your blog (what it is, what you do, etc.), and then goes onto talk about this particular review. then it quotes etude house's marketing director as saying that they are making preparations for international sales and/or distribution. !!!

god, i feel like i've been spending a lot of my time lately commenting here! haha! well, i enjoy reading your blog, so feel free to hit me up if you ever need a little language deciphering! anyway, have a good weekend! :-)

hello Iris.

I'm so sorry but the person that cps for me is a friend and I already drive her nuts with my request so I think it would be a bit rude for me to ask her to do cps for people on my blog.

You can check MUA out or korean forums to see if anyone would cp :) A few girls around are very willing!

Also ebay and online shops sell a few pieces but the price is not retail!

Hope this helps!

Hi how to use the tear drop lash. Is it like extension of the eye lash?

September 22, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Blogger the Muse said...

hello menq_dreamz!

It's basically applied to the very tips of your lashes to create a diamond like effect on your lashes.

It works in a similiar way as Givenchy's Lash Sparkles :)

It's an extension to the eye lash yes I guess that could be what it's called :)

The applicator makes it easy to drop a tiny amount of the product on each lash creating a doll like effect!

Hope this helps! :)

Hi Muse =)
I'm a new subscriber... You look so cute in the makeup^^

I'm really scared of trying peach base stuff after I got a really bad reaction from using Skin Food's peach sake skincare line... am still recovering from the breakouts *sobs*

The cheek sponge stamp thing is so cute... haha... shall step into one of the shops these days to try out their stuff...

thanks for the review...

hi lynn!

good to meet you :-D

aw thanks! *blush*

oh no that stinks :( but I think maybe your reaction was b/c skin food is such a natural product. Are you sensitive skin? if so maybe you had a bad reaction to the fact that the product had no additives.

The cheek sponge is awesome hehe :-D You're lucky that Malaysia now has Etude House YAY!

My pleasure, glad you enjoyed the review looking forward to talking to you again soon!
