Lestat's Return: Babblings of an Un-Cosmetic Nature
Here's one for the Lestat fans (there have to be one or two of you out there in cosmetic land).
It appears Anne Rice is returning to her roots and giving Lestat some much needed air to breath, he's been buried up in his tomb for far too long and many of his fans miss him (the Muse does!). Anne Rice spoke to Time Magazine recently and promises one more book for Lestat.
It interests me she'll be breathing life back into Lestat but I fear for Lestat's return as from the article's tone it appears Lestat will be released back into the head storm of Anne Rice's religious hurricane (I'm an atheist, no I'm not, yes I am, no I'm not!)!
If you've been buried under a rock for 12 years or you're just not a big reader you probably haven't noticed the lack of blood dripping from Anne Rice novels as of late. That's simply because Anne Rice is no longer an atheist and "re-found" the catholic church. In short terms, this meant she'd buried the Vampire Chronicles and 'the evil" it created for her and she'd take on the new adventure of writing about Christ's life. I can't make this stuff up it's all completely true. A lady that was writing about Sleeping Beauty in Bondage a few years ago is now a hardcore Christian...I dunno..whatever floats your boat I guess...stranger things have happened right?
I haven't been a fan of Anne in a while in all honesty. Her work began a downward spiral a very long time ago and Lestat had long since lost his ability to speak to me since...god...who knows a very long time ago.
I've done my duty, as a good fan, and read through everything she's put out (with much difficulty) over the course of the last several years. Reading Memnoch was at times comparable to root canal surgery with a rusty drill!
I guess we do that from time to time with someone we love reading (King is a good example). We fall under the illusion that the next book out will surely recapture the intense feeling we experienced when we originally read the author's first book. But it's never really the case is it?
Lestat's return won't happen for a few more years yet I imagine (even the article states as much) but I'll keep some sort of hope (not a high hope...) alive that he might make a colorful reappearance in her next novel! Who knows maybe Lestat will learn to communicate on the same level with Anne that he used to before Anne went off on her trip to Never Never Land without him.
The Muse looks forwards to the gentleman vampire's return (even though my gut tells me it's going to be a very weird trip)!
Cheers Lestat de Lioncourt! High hopes for one last big bang before you disappear off the literary circuit for good.
By the way if you're really missing the goth you can always appease your hunger by reading Christopher Rice's dribble...that's not quite root canal surgery...it's more alone the lines of brain surgery while you're fully awake!
Yay!

Hey Musey!
I was reading along, and this makes me giggle:
"...and Lestat had long since lost his ability to speak to me since...god..."
I know it's not what you meant, but LOL...
I thought she went really deeply religious with that Christ book of hers, and now she's back to vampire and occult?
Seriously, is that good?
There was once when I was a fan of Anne Rice. A long time ago.... I loved her Vampire Chronicles.
You read Memnoch?! It couldn't interest me enough to even pick it up at the bookstore. Did you read Blackwood farm? I think its one of her better books, apart from the more famous books.
I'm glad Lestat's going to have a comeback! Lets hope it'll be as good. ;)
Christopher Rice huh? Might look him up the next time I'm in the bookstore.
lestat hasn't being at his best since tale of the body thief!
hi Dalenna!
LOL! D god hasn't yet spoken to me but if he does I'll let you know ;)
LOL!
hi loey!
Exactly my thoughts. She's super duper Christian now strange she's doing a book about vamps. But according to her she may be incorporating Christ into the book!
so bizaaro!
This should be good!
hey petitez!
I actually got through Memnoch. I deserve an award or something lol!
I did read blackwood farm and I consider it part of the downward spiral. It had the potential to be good but it was so rushed and short!
I hope Lestat comes back with a bang!
CR is awful please don't spend your hard earned money lol! That's why I was referring to his books as brain surgery lol!
Cheers Robin!
Body Thief was one of the greats! That was when she was writing with flair!
I love Anne Rice books especially Lestat and Interview with the Vampire, have not really read her recent books though :).
I am both a huge Lestat fan (I just love vampire novels and movies in general) and a born-again Christian - LOL! I cannot wait to read the further tales of Lestat - yay!
BTW - I have been dubbed a "glitter Goth" by some friends. I'm not really sure what that means, but it sounds pretty, so I'll take it!
hey bliss!
Me too me too :)
Her recent books aren't as good :( sadly!
hugs sweetie!
LOL Toya! This is your dream novel lovie! It contains a christian theme AND vampires! w00t!
I was born a catholic but I lean towards being an agnostic myself but her novels about Christ did fascinate me!
Wahoo! I'm in the glitter goth catagory myself ;) It just means you're not full on and you fall more into the cute side of goth rather then the balance hardcore darkness of goth ;)
I'd rather be a glitter goth then a standard goth any day ;)
Accept it as a compliment ;)
=)
omg, me <3 Lestat!!!
Hi there Muse,
I've never posted before but when I saw Lestat I had to say that Yes! there is an old Lestat fan in the cosmetic world:) I love your site. Thank you for all that you do! So glad you posted this too. I don't know if I would have known about it. In fact, I love the random geeky stuff. It's great!
Thanks! I figured it was a compliment, as my friends *are* the hardcore goths, but love me anyway. If they said I'm a "glitter goth", I wear the label with pride.
Lestat is my dream man - except for the whole "undead" thing.
hey Lovelymakeup!
me too ;) hehe!
hi Anonymous!
You totally made my day with your comment ;)
Thanks for visiting me here I truly appreciate it.
I'm glad I can keep you updated on the geeky side and the cosmetic side of the news ;)
Honestly I sometimes worry when I do geeky content and fear people will be turned off as they come to read about cosmetics but it thrills me to bits when I get so much feedback on the geeky posts :)
Don't be a stranger to my comment box I look forward to speaking to you in the future!
Hugs!
Hi Toya!
That's what good friends are all about ;) It's a great label =-)
LOL oh well we can't have everything...undead is just a minor detail that you can overcome to reach romantic bliss!
;)
Oh Lord another. Anne Rice was my favorite author when I was about 14 and overly emotional.
You know, Anne Rice is nuts. I'm convinced she's got some sort of supernatural power - seriously I remember when she sold her Garden District manse and everyone was like wtf? Hurrican Katrina hit like. A month later, or sometime soon after. In 2006ish after about a 5 year hiatus from all things Anne I decided to pick up Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle because I figured what the heck? Aside from inspiring a major style moment for me with vintage cameo pins, those books - I really could have done without. I could have done without Blood & Gold too. The 1st of the Vamp series books that I ever read was "Merrick" which I liked because of the imagery, Merrick's personality, and her crazy family. Then I went back and read all the others and you can really see Anne Rice lose her mind as the series progresses. The best two are The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned even though I HATE Lestat (or love to hate him, whichever).
I'll probably read the next Lestat book 5 years after it's published, which'll probably be 10 years from now anyways but Anne Rice'll probably live forever so whatevs.
I haven't yet read "Christ the Lord," because I am afraid (honest).
I never even finished "Memnoch the Devil" because it was way too painful. It should be in the "Great Authors, BAD books" Hall of Fame. But, oddly enough with the "New Tales of the Vampire" books I really liked "Pandora," it is still one of my favorites. I think it should've been included in the Vamp. Chronicles.
Now that I've written an essay *ahem*.
Hey Ashley!
I apoligize for my really slow reply time :) I was waiting until I had a good few minutes to answer as this deserves a little time to reply too :)
LOL I think I was about 14 when I first discovered her as well!
I couldn't agree more there is something off about her isn't there!?!
I think a majority of her newer releases I could have definately done without but I just kept reading and hoping somehow!
Blood and Gold wasn't the worst of the worst but it wasn't the best either.
I did enjoy Merrick myself as well actually. It was more rich and vibrant then the previous releases plus it wasn't cut too short and I felt at least somewhat satisfied when I closed the book!
If you progressively read her books from earlier works up till now you can begin to see the vast differences in the writing style and how the story flows. It's as if she was an entirely different writer. Lestat and characters and general lost the ability to speak in hear later novels and you could tell she was struggling with a bit of a block but forcing herself to move forward. Whether the forcing was due to money reasons or just because she was hopeful it would somehow come back I'm unsure but the spiral downwards began very quickly and crashed down just as fast! Very sad fact!
I think many readers love to hate Lestat ;) It's a cross between being attracted to him and wanting to kill him!
I think her ability to capture a story and a character and bring life to it is long past over but I will def read the new book out of curiosity. Who knows when it'll release though!
Her Christ novels are interesting to say the least. She's pretty good with historical detailing however the underlay is strange. I'm an utter historian when it comes to Christ (even though I'm agnostic) and reading her interpretation of his life was...interesting.
Memnoch was tough to get through and painful but I kept chugging along convincing myself..it'll get better...it'll get better..which it didn't!
Pandora was ok but I was slightly skeptical on it's release. I wished for more. It was a bit too detailed and drawn out but I definately felt it was ok not good or great but ok!
LOL thanks for writing an essay :) I adore discussing books!
Apologies for taking so long to reply!
