Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion Brightening Review

Urban Decay you slay me.

When I heard about the release of not one but two face primers from Urban Decay I felt like it was Christmas morning! Two? Two primers? For serious?

Indeed, two different primers have been released for Fall from Urban Decay along with the other 30 odd items they got going on for Fall. Talk about awesome.

Jump ahead to hear my rave for Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion Brightening!

A company that creates a crazy cult eye primer has to have the low down on creating good facial one right? How can they mess up? They literally mastered eye primer....seriously how many brands were marketing eye primer prior to UD? Hardly anyone at the time. I can't hide my excitement about trying out a face primer for Urban Decay. I'm a huge fan girl for Urban Decay Potion Primer so of course I'm all over this new release.

What is it?

An oil-free, brightening moisturizer that contains wrinkle-reducing Matrixyl.

What it promises:

A brighter, fresher complexion that keeps foundation wearing strong all day while smoothing skin out and making it tighter and brighter.

So I found it interesting that Urban Decay actually recs this for mature skin. Interesting since the brand is pretty hip and has a flock of teens and twenty somethings as fans. Way to go UD, showing the love for the older folk like the Muse.

Supposedly this contains something called Matrixyl 3000 which is known for it's ability to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Honestly I haven't a clue if it works on fine lines as I haven't yet been a victim of lines on my face. It's supposed to make skin tighter and brighter while reducing fine lines and also minmizing them by filling them as a good primer should. Again, I can't really speak for all this as I haven't hit an age where fine lines on my face are an issue as of yet.

I can say this.....

At first when I heard brightening I perked up. Instantly I was picturing some sort of white cast to my skin. Yea, well, you know me. I love to be white. Anything to make me pale is a welcome. I'd have made a fine geisha. It doesn't whiten and really it doesn't brighten either. However, it does make skin glow slightly...not a blushing kind of glow but more of a dewy, natural, healthy glow. As in your skin is a bit tight, a bit dry, and you smooth this on and your skin starts to breath again. Your skin feels moist, it feels like it's taken a sip of cold water, it feels dewy, fresh. So if dullness and dryness is your problem this will be a very nice primer. It's not silicon based so breath a sign of relief for moisturizing primer without silicons. I don't believe that UD created this as a pore filler that's what the other version, second primer release, was created for. This is more for someone like myself who doesn't have large pores but does have dullness, dryness, perhaps fine lines or wrinkles. This smooths minor imperfections down and preps skin for foundation.

The formula is slippery smooth and absorbs nicely onto skin. A tad sticky at first it quickly dries down to a dewy finish. It comes in a great packaging which mimics old school glue. Unscrew the top and squeeze the bottle for a small amount of primer to pop up. Very good packaging and product distribution. No woes of product getting trapped in the bottle...you'll get every little drop out.

As for my foundation....mmm yes it does a pretty decent job of keeping it fresher. I wore this with two separate foundations. One powder and one liquid and both remained quite fresh on my skin for a little while longer. It worked particularly well with a BB cream I had on and I seen very good results with a wear of 7 hours prior to touch up. Normally I get about 6 hours from a good BB. Plus I kinda sorta felt like my foundation didn't oxidize thanks to this....my imagination? Not sure but I'm going to keep testing and see if that's the case. If it's true...whoa! Sign me up for a case! Foundation oxidizing is one of my beauty woes!

Who might like it?
  • Anyone who likes a moisturizing primer minus silicons.
  • Anyone who has dull, dry skin and needs a cooling, moisturizing primer.
  • Anyone who loved MUFE Elixir or Korres Primer
  • Anyone who doesn't have huge pores or is pore-less.

Overall, I think it's well worthy of a pick up. It's an interesting product and considering not a slew of companies release primers without a silicon base, it's probably a worthy contender for your time if you aren't partial to silicons!

Anyone try?

What do you think?

Are you hauling it?

Tell the Muse, very curious what your thoughts are on Urban Decay Primers!
