Musings of the Day: Sooooooooooo Overrated!
My Musings of the Day was brought on suddenly after watching a video from FloridaSweety on youTube.

Is she hysterical or what? I absolutely adore how she starts out on one topic and starts flying off the handle from topic to topic. Absolutely adored when she stops mid sentence because her cell phone starts to ring and she goes off on a tangent about how she won't pick it up.
Lord...youTube is the best.
Anyway.
The moral of the story is FloridaSweety was saying how overrated MAC is and I was wondering what brand or brands do you think are terribly overrated?

Ok, I probably have a few answers for this. Let's see. I think NYX is big time overrated. They have alot of great stuff but the raves about how comparable they are to MAC...ummm overrated! One such example would be everyone comparing NYX shadows to MAC ummm again no I don't think. Very nice shadows but not as good as MAC in my humblest.
It's Monday so my brain is slow today and I'm only coming up with the one brand...so throw some my way!
Which brand or brands are completely overrated?

that gal is SO hilarious! i especially loved the sequel, "pig of a waiter," with a special cameo of her cat.
i have to say, though, mac foundation is not my favorite. most of the formulations make me break out. in terms of overrated, i would have to choose clinique skin care. people always sing its praises, but i feel like it's no better than drugstore skin care products. especially the "dramatically different" lotion - i might as well slather some crisco on my face.

I really am not a big mac foundation user at all...but did like the sculpt! But clinique I never tried for base products before.
I think that MAC is overrated in certain areas (foundation particularly - there are brands that do just as good, if not better, of a job and they don't break people out like crazy). I also think that Maybelline mascara is ridiculously overrated. It always makes the cult faves list and I've never been able to understand why.
As to NYX, I happen to be a NYX fan, but again, only for certain products. I think they're a pretty high quality drugstore type choice for eyeshadow colors that I may only use a few times and don't want to drop a lot of money on. And they have some colors that I think are absolutely beautiful that I haven't been able to find anything similar to in other lines (most notably Africa and Salmon).
You were also asking about the CS palettes. I think they're pretty good quality for the amount you're paying (and I like that I usually get some colors that I may not have purchased individually, but along those same lines there's always a few colors I'm way disappointed in). However, shipping is sloooow and customer service isn't great. I think that if there's one you have your eye on, you probably won't be disappointed but it's also not going to become your new favorite thing.

LOL, I love the video! I particularly like the bit where she says she goes running around the house to see how her face looks with different lighting. It's great that in this foundation review of hers, I've found out she has an attentive husband, is 50 years old, and had a bad experience with a waiter, hahaha.
I can't really think of any brands that I find overrated, though. I don't wear make up that often, so I'm quite easily pleased.

Agreed on the hype of Maybelline...that one puzzles me :)
I couldn't agree more about NYX they have great quality items but I personally wouldn't compare them to mac :)
I always see those CS palettes all over ebay and I wonder how safe it is for my eyes...as it's made go knows where and with god knows what..but I can't help but lem them :-D

I just want to know what the waiter did! OMG, she's sooo funny! I'm not going to comment on what I think is over-rated; I'm obviously biased. Though I still think MAC should've made the Hello Kitty edition for the Suri set :)

I do like MAC lipstick quite a bit. Eyeshadows don't last though, although I bought the My Date's My Brother blue eyeshadow a few years ago when I was single just for the name--because my brother always was my date then, LOL! I would say Lancome is a bit overrated and overpriced. Also I was VERY disappointed with Patricia Wexler's skin care line--very pricey and it DID NOT work on my skin at all, in fact it made things worse.
okay...that was hard to watch honestly. She's a complete spaznoid...bouncing from cell phone to lighting to that damn waiter who was a PIG! (I guess she doesn't know what hotel cleaning ladies do to your toothbrush when your gone, lol.)
Clinique makes me look ashy and old, but I'm not going to say it's overrated because there are so many that love it. It's just not for my skin. Seems to me it's all about endorsements.
Kind of like Clarisonic Brush...started out under $100 several years ago when it first came out...Oprah mentions it as a favorite and WHOOSH! Prices skyrocket, not because it's a fantastic product, but because of the endorsement. Some love it and swear by it, others think it's slowly ripping the flesh off their face.
Then there's products like La Mer - $230 for 2oz of moisturizer. Who in their right mind pays for crap like that!!!! - probably those that believe it will make their skin look like a child's again. And hell, it may actually do that.
Different products work differently for different people. That's that~

as for overrated... i have to agree on the clinique 3-step programme. it's not that good.
i don't wear foundation, except for concealer under my eyes. so i can't really give my opinion on the mac one.

I like NYX items, but i think it really depends on what you need that makes an item wantable or not. I think um, a lot high-end glosses are overrated (except MAC ones since they're on the cheap side) I mean, come on! $24 plus for a long lasting duo lip, what about drugstore ones like MAX factor and CG. (for eye shadows, I am not lookign for long lasting. My lids are oily and Any eyeshadow crease on me. even dior)
Another thing, High-end eye shadows are overrated. (not to mention lots drugstore ones like L'oreal, etc; their eyeshadows don't have color payoff. :( sigh) I think if you're lookign for color payoff, go for NYX, Milani, UD, MAC, etc. I don't like lancome, or chanel ones, or YSL and Dior has some nice ones, but the price tag is OOH and they can be a hit or miss. Better invest in some other holiday palettes like MAC... IMO
Every brand has its hits and misses, so it's up to us on which ones to choose smartly. Finding the one that works well is enough. Although I have to agree that a lot SAs at MAC counters have those pasty cakey looks on their face where you can see the lines, just um... PEACE!

Personally for me most all drugstore brands are extremely overrated...none of it works on me :( but occasionally I'll find something great though in the sea of bad :-D
but yea everything is either a hit or miss it just depends :-D

Bare Escentuals is totally overrated to me. It makes me look kind of crap and I'm just not all that impressed by any of their products I own besides one gloss.
I think mineral makeup in general is overrated but that's probably because I MAKE the stuff and I'm just over it. :/
I am loving the Laura Mercier mineral set I got with the four powders and three brushes though - love LM!
