Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation Review

I've been using Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation for about 3 months now and felt it was about time for a review. Foundation for me is a splurge item, I think good foundation is worth it's weight in gold and if I have to pay in gold to get a good foundation I'll do just that. Foundation is an important part of making makeup look flawless, it sets the canvas for anything else you plan on putting on your face, and gives your skin the coverage it needs for picture perfect skin.

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation has the potential to be great but fails miserably.

First let me point out the good points of the product before getting into the major problem with the formula. One great factor on this foundation is the wonderful packaging. The foundation comes in a hygienic squeeze bottle which allows you to squeeze small amounts out for application. This style packaging is ideal for those of us that are a bit more conscious of germs and bacteria.

Now the formula is quite thick but manages to be extremely moisturizing however it is a tad bit runny which can cause a bit of a mess during application however using small amounts at a time keeps the application mess-free and simple. The foundation manages to glide beautifully well onto skin and absorbs wonderfully.

The color selection is vast and there should be a shade to suit any skin tone however I did feel like many shades had a considerable amount of beige to them which is, for the most part, unflattering for my tone of skin. I ended up with Light 1 and as you can see even that's a tad bit on the dark side. The price is great and ranges from $7.99-$9.99 or less if a sale is ongoing.

I seriously wanted to love this. While doing my Beauty on a Budget week I was on the hunt for the perfect drugstore foundation and this definately caught my own considering how many raves it gets however it must be all hype because it has one sad, unredeemable problem.

The problem I'm speaking of is the fact that the product is ridiculously sheer and lightweight. I don't particularly have a problem with sheer foundations nor do I mind lightweight coverage in the least however this smooths on completely transparent and offers absolutely no coverage. Application is quite like adding an extra layer of moisturizer or primer to your face rather then what appears to be a pigmented foundation.

Granted, I do not need a ton of coverage however I do prefer to have a foundation finish to my face and I think foundation erases the certain dullness my skin sometimes sports. Lighter coverage is perfectly fine however this fails at even offering light coverage.

Strangely enough the product appears deeply pigmented however once it's on I see little to no difference in my face and I'm left looking like I freshly moisturized my face rather than just applied a layer of foundation.

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation seriously has the potential for greatness but they need to work on the formula in a major way to get me to purchase it again.

Sadly disappointed with this one although I didn't expect too much going into it anyway!

Tried this?

Love it?

Hate it?

Hi Muse,

I think this product looks very similar to MAC tinted moisturizer. I don't use it at all because Maybelline and I do not mesh. Did you try Neutrogena foundations? I used the cream to powder one and it was the best drugstore product I've ever used! I did not break me out and felt very much like high end makeup. Another brand that was good for me is L'Oreal. I didn't try the mineral products from them either. I try to steer clear from drugstore minerals as they have bismuth oxychloride :D

It kinda does doesn't it!?

actually me and ds brands in general don't mesh hehe!

I haven't but they do look interesting...! drugstore minerals seem to quite poorly made in general :P

I haven't used ds foundation in such a long time it's hard to adjust and discover new items. I'm a bit bias sometimes *blush*

I actually like this product. It seems to work for darker skin tones. Granted, I'm at the end of their dark scale, but I found it surprisingly matched for my skintone.

hello erica!

It matched well for me but it felt ultra sheer on me and offered absolutely no coverage. The pigmentation wasn't nearly what I expected :(

Thanks for the comment :)
Hope to hear from you again soon!
