Summer Must Have Makeup: Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation

I think most of us crave a really light makeup when the humid, hot weather hits. Or in some cases you might be living in a climate when the weather is humid all the time!

When the humidity is so thick you can cut it with a knife and the heat feels like it's going to melt your face it's understandable to seek out a lighter, refreshing makeup that stays put and feels like you're not wearing anything at all on your face.

In my search for a lighter foundation for the Summer I came across the Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation. This neat little wand is quite like having a large version of YSL's Touche Eclat Radiant pen. A few clicks and a quick blend later and my face is looking refreshed, flawless, and beautiful with minimal effort on my part.

The box claims that this banishes large pores but sadly I can't give you the low down on this as my pores aren't very large. It also promises to leave your skin flawless with sheer build-able coverage. That part is very true. The formula is ideal for the Summer as it applies as a moisturizing foundation but it dries down to a very matte finish which allows your skin to breath while keeping oily skin at bay.

I love how this wakes up my tired, dull skin and makes it bright and fresh looking as if I just washed and scrubbed my face! The formula is thick and creamy but don't let that lead you into believing it's heavy. It's quite light and airy once blended and just feels wonderfully natural. It has pretty nice staying power without the help of powder. I wore it from 6 am till around 3 in the afternoon with no touch ups. Although my MSF was showing signs of fading around this time my foundation was still going strong and a quick pinch of cheek stain to freshen my cheeks up was all I needed. This contains light reflecting pigments and as I said it's quite a nice moisturizing foundation without feeling oily. If you look close enough you can see a faint gleam and shimmer to your skin! Not so much that it looks shimmery or glittery but just the right amount to make your skin give off a bit of a glow!

I'm loving the packaging on this as it has a built in brush so if you don't want to touch the foundation you can easily swipe on and blend with the built in brush! Click, dab, blend, done! Simple!

Bare face Muse! Wearing Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation, MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Global Glow, and some NARS lip gloss in Misbehave!

All in all a rather nice little foundation from Too Faced! The Muse enjoyed this one and I'm slapping a Muse Approval on it for purchase! Makeup simplicity is a must in the Summer heat and Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating Foundation has me covered!

Head on over to Sephora or Too Faced to snatch one up for yourself!

Hi Muse,
I love your FOTD! You look fresh and glowing! These "bare faced" pics of yours always make me crave the blush you wear in them, UD Bronzer before now Global Glow! AAAArgh! As if I hadn´t enough MSF´s already!! Do you like them?Did you hear 3 MSF´s are repromoted in October?

I´m from Vienna, Austria, btw, since you asked.
Have a nice day,
Nell

Oooh I was waiting on a review of this before buying it! Tried out the colors and everything at the store, but waited on a review because, well, there were other products to buy...

Do you recall how much is in there? --Wait, I can look that up. Rather, does it look as though, when the foundation is running out, the shape of the container is such that one wouldn't be losing the last of it due to poor packaging? Can you squeeze the last bit out of it? (Need to know so I can maximize new makeup purchased pre-Japan).

Also thank you for the tons of Japanese makeup links the other day; I looked at all of 'em and eagerly await my trip!

Hi again, okay, I checked online. This wand retails for $32.50 in the US pre tax and £20.00 in the UK (tax included). That means, it's probably going to be somewhere between €25 and €30, though I wouldn't be surprised if it is even more! :P

hi liz!

LOL that was easy :)

Too expensive your side. I wouldn't buy it at that high cost! Sheesh!

Lord that's bloody expensive. I've never asked you before and I don't mean to be nosy but when did you come to live in Ireland...? I've always wanted to visit ;) It seems lovely!

hi Aya!

Aw thanks honey ;)

Mmm I normally don't attempt to clean these sorts of brushes in the traditional way so what I do is wipe them a free times with a brush cleaning wipe as I'm always scared to run it under water with brush cleaner less I ruin it.

So the wipes are really helpful!

Hi Muse! What a lovely foundation review! Too Faced is not a brand I think of when I think of foundation. The built in brush is a great idea! Why didn't anyone think of this? I wonder if they have a variety of skintones too. I think I'll stop by my local Too Faced counter.

hi there stephy!

Thank you kindly *blush*

I normally try on my hand as I'm terribly scared of germs and bacteria that's lurking in the store yuk! So many people touching stuff!

It's difficult to say :( I always go for a shade or two lighter which I know is completely wrong! If it turns out wrong we have the benefit of good return policies!

Sometimes blending on the inner wrist, where the skin is sometimes whiter, is the best bet. It'll allow you to blend the color well plus give you the benefit of a lighter shade for your face rather than something dark, dull and beige.

I wish I had more tips ;) and tricks for foundation picking but it's always a damn tedious process finding a good suitable shade ;)

morning roxy.

It's not really that hard or time consuming. I just do my makeup in the morning like anyone else except at the time I am using different products. I snap a quick picture and I write the review when I have a few extra minutes at my office. Bob's your uncle..review is up and live!

LOL I have a life outside of reviewing and blogging ;) So most of it gets done at work when stuff is slow and boring ;)

hiya psychoexgirlfriend !

Thanks darlin'!

I just loved the click brush which led me into wanting to try it out!

They have a rather large selection of colors available so I'm sure you'll find at least one flattering shade ;)

It reminds me of a big old touch of radiance pen ;) Click and banish dull skin ;)

Thanks for the comment!

Happy "almost" Weekend!

I am more encouraged to hear that they have a variety of skintones too! :D It does look like YSL's Touche Eclat (I realize I probably butchered the spelling there...). Happy weeekend! (Is it the weekend yet?)

Another lemming! I'm curious to try it out, but I wonder if it'll work well for my combo skin, as illuminating can sometimes = oiliness for me!

morning psychoexgirlfriend!

They have quite a nice line up of color selections. no no not at all ;)

It actually kinda sorta feels like YSL too when I'm spreading it around my face.

Good stuff ;)

Hehe sadly it's over :( The weekend be long gone and it's back to work yak!

Happy Monday though ;)

morning Emilee!

mmmm...it's not too illuminating. I'm a tad bit oily too due to the humidity and I didn't experience much of a prob. Buy from somewhere you can return :) That way you can try it and if you hate it pop it back to the store ;)

Happy Monday!
Thanks for the comment :)

i have this at home but its seems to fade on me pretty quickly. i really like the effect it gives me though, a nice glowy look. how exactly do YOU use it? i find that the brush on the end doesnt blend very well for me as it leaves streaks. which way do you put it on?

November 19, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Blogger the Muse said...

hiya janice!

this was my must have for Summer as it was so nice and light :) It gave me pretty long wear..surprised that it faded so quickly :)

The brush is crap...I hardly ever apply foundation with brush anyway....I just twist some up, smooth down the sides of my face with the brush and blend with my finger tips :)

It's easier :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the comment!
Hope to talk to you again soon!
