Summer Beauty on a Budget Finds: NYX Hot Orange Eye Shadow Review

Alot of hype surrounds NYX eye shadows. I've read many a review, many a post, and many a discussion about how wonderful NYX eye shadows are and how close in pigmentation they are to MAC.

I personally never purchased any NYX eye shadows until recently when I came across a display at Harmons and my eyes were drawn to the NYX eye shadow color in Hot Orange.

It's such an awesome Summer shade.

Although Hot Orange is quite a gorgeous shade it's not without it's flaws. As I mentioned this is my first time purchasing an NYX eye shadow and being a MAC girl myself it's definately difficult to compare MAC to NYX in quality but you can perhaps chalk that up to your Muse being very picky about cosmetics.

This particular shade is a bit gritty as it contains a healthy dose of what appears to be non cosmetic glitter, really chunky pieces of the type a glitter you'd use for some after school crafts are something....yak!

The pigmentation is pretty good on the shadow and it blended pretty well aside from the glitter getting everywhere. I did notice that the texture was not as silky as a MAC eye shadow and I did have to swipe a few times and build the color up to get the desired vibrancy that I'd get easily with one swipe from a MAC shadow.

On the plus side the color is such a great Summer shade. The orange is wonderful by itself or combined with some golds or yellows from your collection! Plus the price can't be beat at $4.99 USD!

For the price I'd say it's worth checking out and it's a very nice Summer Beauty Budget Find! Will I buy NYX again? Possibly!

If you're trying to keep your beauty budget tight this is a great little find to add a bit of wicked color to your Summer makeup routine!

I like the orange on you, as it looks pretty and shimmery in the photo. I've had a lot of people recommend Nyx to me as being on par with MAC too, but I've yet to try it. I do, however, love the name Nyx.

Oh no! I should have warned you away from the "hot" colors. All of those NYX shadows that have hot in the name are awful (My Favorite Color is another one to watch out for too). The glitter is huge and the texture is bone dry and hardly pigmented. Orange looks like one of the better ones though.

Try the non-hot single shadows - those are much better! :D

Nope Muse, this color steals your natural eyes beauty.
Grens, blues, teals and nudes rock on you.
PS.The color where you showed how MAC 227 brush works is still "Namba1"

Honesty, I find the NYX shadows that aren't glittery to be much smoother...I hope this helps!

Wow, you rock that orange hardcore! For some reasons whenever I wanted to place an order of NYX, I ended up not doing so. Regardless of the good things I've heard from people, there's something about it that doesn't spark my interest.

you know Taryn I'm an arse b/c I think you told me to watch out for the glitter and I completely forgot and got this one! Duh!

It's very grainy and hard..literally have to scrap it off the pot for application!

I'll def try one without glitter to make my final opinion on these guys :)

I really enjoy the NYX brand overall for color products. They're not OMG!Amazing! quality, but what you get is worth a lot more than the price. If you're on a budget, or you just like avidly collecting make-up and don't want to break the bank doing so, you could do much worse, I think.

The lipsticks are stupid cheap, and come in So. Many. Colors. (Side note: the swatches on the NYX site or Cherryculture are beyond atrocious. There are some youtube vids and blogs that have swatches up that are much better, and I've started doing some as well.)

hello maggie!

I agree! That's very sensible and true. It's def not OMG the way some go on about it but it's good quality for the price!

I have to say even swatches at mac blow arse. They really need to see about updating these things sigh :P

yak!
