Making the Most of Urban Decay Primer Potion

I recently decided to risk life and limb by sawing open my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Kids, don't try this sh*t at home!

The bright idea to try this stemmed from my desperation for Primer Potion. My sister is out of town this week and I know I won't have much time to head to Sephora to nab a new bottle and ordering online isn't an option considering that it'll take days to get here!

My schedule is booked solid this week with work, life, and everything else so yesterday morning I realized I was most definately out of primer!

My god the horror of it all!

My shadow creases in a sincerely major way be it Summer or Winter but its particularly bad in the humid weather that we are having. So as I pumped, pumped, pumped away this morning (you know what I mean if you're a UD primer user) I realized that the good old tube of primer has reached it's cash in date and was headed towards the rubbish bin!

My unsuspecting tube of Urban Decay Primer Potion!

When I came home later that night the bright idea to SAW open the tube came to me! It was a like a bright light bulb going off in my head! Of course! I'd just saw open the tube easily like I've seen performed on other blogs and mounds of primer would await me.

Yea...right.

My ass. Excuse my french :)

This is not a matter of simply sawing open the tube! This takes some sincere sweat, blood, and tears to do! Holy crap it was like a cardio work out just to get the bloody thing apart! I swear I must have been there 10 minutes at least sawing away with my dull kitchen knife! I couldn't help but think how proud freaking Michael Myers would be of me!

All yur primers are belongs to me biatch!

Tools of the trade! Yes, this is what I used to hack the thing apart!

After narrowly missing slicing my thumb off and just grazing it enough to spurt blood all over the place I finally got the tube sliced open!

Starting to saw!

Slowing getting there!

And low and behold inside laid nirvana. You can watch videos, you can view pictures but nothing prepares you for the first time you saw open your very own tube of Urban Decay Primer Potion. Angels sung, birds chirped, all was right with the world again.

Holy COW! L@@K at all that primer!

And some more..........

After some major scoopage!

Sincerely, there was at least enough in the upper part of the tube to last me the rest of the month if not more!

Sadly, after the workout of cutting the top half open I wasn't prepared for doing the bottom half. It was suggested on a video tutorial to slice not only the top but the bottom as well but the Muse has an attachment to her fingers and since she survived the first round of hacking she decided it was best to call it a day!

Do I recommend slicing your tube open?

Hells no!

This is sincerely hard, dangerous work! I'm thinking that $25 USD for a dual package of primers isn't too bad a price to pay to keep all my fingers on one hand!

If you value your limbs I say don't try it! It's seriously a chore and I was just desperate!

Have you ever cracked open your tube of UDPP?

Considering it?

Love your fingers as much as the Muse loves hers?

Tell me all about it!

I'm thinking next time it would be easier to get a straw, stick it in, and suck the remaining potion out!

Better ideas anyone?

A most happy ending!

Oh no! Poor Muse! I have sawed off an PP but I used a .... saw! It was much easier than your terrible/bloody ordeal. I like Too Faced Shadow Insurance because it comes in a squeeze tube, not need for sharp instruments!!

Hope your thumb is OK!

I laughed my butt of reading this post; i cant believe you actually sawed it open!!! I dont use primers so i honestly wouldn't understand your desperation for one. I hardly even wear makeup anymore. I just like buying them and cooing over it in my cabinet!!

Thank you for visiting my blog! :) I was wondering if you put your UDPP in a plastic or glass container? I put mine in a plastic container and it dried out. I'm wondering if it makes a difference.

HOLY CRAP!!! Here I was complaining about the price of UD Primer when I first bought it (even though I LOVE it to death)...to know it has THAT MUCH in it...it's worth every penny i spent on my tube. *kisses the tube*

Haha, your posts crack me up so much! :)

I'm definitely considering this, but I'll ask my boyfriend to do it. He said he'll gladly bust out a knife to slice it up... I'm pretty sure he's got something sharper than a kitchen knife, it should do the trick!

Such an ordeal to get that product out, but perhaps worth it. :) I need it in this heat, too!

Wow, there was a heap left in that bottle. I am also a lover of UDPP but normally when it starts to run low I just take the plastic stopper out of the top of the bottle and get a lot more product out that way.I probably don't get as much out as you did but I don't risk losing a finger either!

I haven't gotten around to doing this, yet, but I'm kind of scared now! Ouchie, your poor finger!!

Still, if there's that much product left over, I think it's worth more to cut it open than to buy a new tube so fast.

Thanks for the post!

That's a TON of product left in there!! I think that I would definitely risk my fingers just to get my money's worth and I'd probably saw off the bottom portion too cuz I'm crazy like that ;) Lol :P Of course, I'd use the sharpest knife I can get! You have set a precedent, Muse!! It's like when you tell a little NOT to look, it makes them want to look even more, lol! :P

Sweety, next time just buy Too Faced's Shadow Insurance: it comes in a squeeze tube! UDPP seems like too much work for my Musey! Dangerous to boot!

I did this with my UDPP about 3 months ago. I cut the bottom and top halves both. I can't BELIEVE how much product I got out of it. Ridiculous. Like another 6-9 month's worth, literally, not exaggerating. I took me about a half hour to cut, get it to come apart, scoop, cut bottom half, scoop. But to me, it's so worth it for two reasons: I get more bang for my buck, and two - I beat the scam UD has to get you to buy some more :)

As far as the fingers go...totally hear you!! I got my hubs to help me when I started sweating to get it apart, LOL.

I agree with the angels singing when you finally crack it open and see ALL THAT PRIMER LEFT! Its amazing. Will I do it again...probably, but after a while of being in the little tub, it dries out just a little bit, and it doesn't have the same consistency. But it still works!

You are so funny! Love reading your blog since ages ago (it's in my must-surf webpage). And you "sawing" that UDPP is such a common thing here in Singapore. Only thing is, we did it on our toothpaste, handcream and what-not, and a saw is not required, just a pair of scissors.

Hey Izzy, how was your weekend? I saw lotsa beauty bloggers post on getting the most out of their udpp as well. It's always surprises them that there are so many udpp left behind in the tube! The amount is like half left over! I think urban decay should really change the packaging of udpp. It's such a waste throwing out the whole tube when half of it is still inside!

Oh gosh, this was one of your funniest posts to date. Not that it's funny that you almost sawed off a finger, but just the whole crazy situation.

I think I'd try bending a straw, pipe cleaner or a q-tip just to get enough out. I've always been horrified that people cut open that thing! The UD packaging people are idiots if they haven't realized by now that there is a major flaw in the design. Of course, it does have people buying more rather quickly, so maybe they aren't so stupid after all.

Hi musey,
Maybe next time (if you pick up the courage to use a saw or maybe a sharper heavier knife) you should use a pair of pliers (those with grooves on the two surfaces that clamp for added grip) to clamp the bottle with, then continue sawing. Since it's the pliers that are holding the bottle down, this makes it safer cause your fingers won't be in the way of imminent harm =D

in the top theres a small clear plastic tube type thing that stops too much product getting on the brush...if you pull it out then its much easier to get the last bits out. i did this with the mini one that came with the deluxe eyeshadow box.

I have a tiny saw around somewhere I should have used that but I was just sorta fiddling around and firgured the kitchen knife would do..bad idea lol!

I really enjoyed reading this post. I'm amazed at how much product is left. For next time, if there is a next time, using the pliers or clamp idea that someone mentioned before, would you be able to cut the bottle in half length wise? Thinking about it, it would probably take longer, but just a thought. hehe Great job nonetheless!

Hi there lovely and aMUSEing muse. Have been reading your blog for sometime but never felt compelled to comment till now.

As the tube's plastic, my first instict would be to heat up a pair of stainless steel scissors and use the heat to melt and cut my way through the plastic. If you're afraid of say scorching the primer, you can stop when you're aaaalmost through. Then just snap the weakened tube in half. Has anyone tried this method?

good morning vera!

Aw glad you liked it. I was fascinated how much was left holy cow.

I think cutting it in half isn't good as you'll have a harder time scooping. It's recommend at the neck so that you get the "belly" of the tube where the product gets caught. Plus the neck is softer than the other parts of the packaging.

Pliers would definately have helped but I was impatient ;) hehe. You never know maybe sawing in half would be easier...I'm not sure ;)

Thanks for the comment! Hope to talk to you again soon!
