Summer Collections 2008: Bourjois Paris Shimmer Shine Liquid Eye Shadow Review

I'm trying to cover as many as the Summer releases as I can get my hands on. I know many of you trust my opinion and come here prior to doing your purchasing so I want to say thanks for putting SO much faith in my reviews!

Here's some sneak peeks of upcoming reviews:

Tarte's Spring and Summer Collections
Urban Decay's Summer Collection
Benefit Posietint (I know you're eagerly awaiting this...!)
La Mer Reviews (Many, many e-mails about this! I'm reviewing a few of the items! In particular I was asked about the powder! It's coming shortly!)
Dior Extreme Fix Powder (Lots of questions and emails! Review is upcoming!)
Lavshuca Summer Palettes
KATE Eyeshadow Palettes
Aube Fruitina Glosses
and much, much, more!

Don't see something you want reviewed? Yell at me!

P.S. If you wrote me an e-mail I'll get back to you as soon as possible! It may take a while but I do my best to write everyone back! I get flooded with e-mails daily and it's sometimes very difficult for me to write back in a timely manner but I do appreciate every single one of your emails and promise to get to you all shortly :)

Now on with today's review of Bourjois Paris Shimmer Liquid Eyes Shadow. This is a first for Bourjois Paris as far as I know. They have never had liquid or cream shadows prior to this release and it's an interesting release for sure.

This is an inventive little product that deserves some raves. You might be wondering why I've dubbed this inventive considering it's not really anything we haven't seen before right? Well...the formula is a very interesting thing and the packaging.

I'll start by mentioning the texture, formula, etc....The name is fitting as this is a liquid shadow and not so much a cream. Cream shadows are dense and this is more of a liquid texture. The formula blends beautifully and it's quite an interesting and unique experience applying this. You may (or may not) notice from my pictures of the product and in the pictures of me wearing this that the color morphs slightly. It goes from a lighter to darker. Within the packaging it appears almost as if it's swirling around from a lighter shade to a darker shade. This carries out the same effect during application. I applied on my lid and smoothed it into place and what I came up with was an interesting lighter to darker effect on my lids. It almost seems as if I am wearing a lighter shade of shadow on my inner lid and on my outer lid it appears like I applied a darker shade. Very interesting. The finish has some shimmer but it carries more of a metallic look that's very shiny on.

Now the packaging deserves a mention too. In a similar vein as it's loose eyeshadows Bourjois Paris decided to go pretty much the same route with these. It's a cute plastic container with a screw top. Open it up and you'll have another enclosure with the wand applicator. The brush is nice and large and captures the product wonderfully so you end up with a nice loaded brush ready to go for application! One application should do the trick as the product is pretty pigmented however if you prefer a darker look go ahead and apply another shade or two (I only did one application in my FOTD's). The product dries pretty quickly so blending should take place as soon as you've swiped the brush on your eye! I did find if I applied a second coat on top of a dry coat it didn't cause any flaking or smudging which was great!

These are definately worth heading to Sephora to have a look at. Honestly, it's probably the easiest liquid/cream shadow I've ever worked with. If you read my blog daily you might know I really hate cream shadows but lately I've found some great ones and this is turning into a great one! These are $16 USD each and sadly only available in six shades at the moment! Let's hope they extend the line and add a few more color selections!

The colors I got were Rose Electron which is a soft rose pink and Beige Metallique which is a beautiful, neutral beige with tiny hints of gold!

Ok so here's some Face of the Day pics using both colors! Hopefully you aren't too tired of my mug! I just think it's cool to do the review with FOTD's because you can see how the product looks on!

I think you can see how well the eyeshadow morphs in this photo! See how it looks pale pink in the middle of my lid and grows darker on the outer lid?

If you're loving my blush do catch my article on Aromaleigh Rocks! Mineral Powder Blush! They are my latest obsession!

All in all I think these cute little shadows are worth a look at! I'm going to go ahead and slap them with a big Muse Approval for purchase! The Muse likey!

Have these?

Want 'em?

Do tell the Muse! I'm listening!

It'd be interesting to mix and match these colors, creating all new colors, but I can't help but miss the old Survoltee cream-shadows.

Very interesting indeed! Do you mean that the liquid itself, once on the wand, goes from light to dark? Or is it some other magical application method that got the result in your pictures?

I don't see this product on the Bourjois UK site yet (we only get what they get in the UK), but hopefully we'll have them soon!

I love the way the pink one looks like you blended two shades instead of just applying one. I definitely need to check these out :)

These are beautiful on you - so fresh and glowy! I will definitely be swatching these on my next trip to Sephora, provided they're in stock. They really need to expand their selection of Bourjois, like including those mini shadows that you can put in the separate little palette.

And can you believe Sephora took out Shiseido's cosmetics and put in Carol's Daughter instead?! I wanted to cry! ^-^;

I like the almost duo chromed quality of the pink. It looks great on your lids.

Bourjois has had several cream e/s prior to this one. One was a pretty metallic range, iirc, while the other (a much older one) was in long tubes reminiscent of UDPP and were quite pastel and light in terms of texture - nowhere as pigmented as these.

They actually had cream eyeshadows, called Survoilté or something. Not bad at all!

Have a great weekend!

Hey Muse, sounds really easy to use!

Does it smudge/crease easily? My eye crease is really deep and cutting into my eye making it look as if I'm single eyelid. Cream/liquid shadows looks as if it's stuck in my crease after a couple of hours of wear even with udpp.

Btw, what lip products are you using on your Beige Metallique fotd(yellow clothes)?

Anyway, have a nice weekend ahead! :)

gracie ;)

Happy "almost" weekend!

No. Well. I mean no it doesn't...it's just an effect that seems to happen when it goes on! It's strange :) It didn't happen with the beige so much as the pink!

nope no magic. Just a quick swipe over my eye, blended with a finger, and bob's your uncle.

I think it's still very new so it should be arriving soon I hope! It's worth looking at for sure!

hi gracie!

Yes indeed! Blends like a dream :)

I didn't notice any creasing/smudging after 10 hours of wear :)

Aw shucks :( Mmmm....I wish I had a good solution for these. Honestly if your creasing cutting so deeply into the eye how about application above it? Maybe that would work better?

That'd be mac for fafi strawbaby with some clear gloss on top :)

details for the color here:

hi jen jen!

That's alright! I totally understand! I haven't been around your place either. When you have your own blog you get so busy sometimes with emails, comments, and posts that you miss visiting other blogs :(

The pink is my fav too!

I used to get one girl coming back over and over again telling me sh*tty stuff on my fotds and offering her "friendly" criticism on my makeup application! I use the term friendly very loosely.

But I can't complain too much. I've had a few idiots for sure :( But the good people outweigh the bad!

I used to let things like this get me a bit upset too and angry but I'm at the point where I could really care less. and you'll get like that as well! I blog because I love it. I love cosmetics and I love sharing that with equally passionate people! Those who want to come here and hate on me are welcome to it :P As far as I'm concerned they are the miserable ones not me!

What was it they said? :(

I'm so sorry lovie. I wouldn't worry about it too much!

i dont know how to achieve that kind of blending effect, so this seems super cool to me!
but i think the effect of the beige eyeshadow doesnt look as obvious as the pink one, and personally i dont really venture out of the neutrals. haha~

but i dont think it's available in singapore as well.
ROWLS.

oh well.
