Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Review & Swatches

Determining whether you want to actually indulge in some of Target's new "high end" makeup collections like Pixi is a debate I'm sure you've all had with yourself a few times since these collections have been released.

Honestly, as soon as I heard about them I immediately headed in store and purchased a few items because I was generally curious however I'm still somewhat on the fence about splurging on cosmetics at my local Target.

For example the Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel I'm about to review for you is a whooping $20 USD and although it's not a bad product I'm unsure of the price tag. I took the liberty of looking through my stash and came to the conclusion that a majority of the stains I own run from $16-$28 USD so really I shouldn't wince too much at $20 USD but for some reason or another the price just makes me shake my head. Could it be because I expect much less from Target?

Disregarding the price for the moment I will say that I'm a sucker for stains so I did pick up Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel almost right away upon seeing it. The color I selected was 03 Rosy which is a cocktail of peachy pink. The color actually swatches much deeper than it is as once it's applied it leaves behind a very sheer blush of color on cheeks which is quite flattering and in living up to it's namesake of "sheer cheek gel". The texture of the product is a gel so it blends quite easily although I'd like a bit more pigmentation since I did have to get a few squirts onto my finger tips to build up color for my finished look you'll see below. It does have a slightly odd smell which isn't really unpleasant but perhaps a tad bit annoying. It's a bit of a plastic scent combined with some alcohol which I basically translate as "cheap makeup smell".

Honestly I love how the product looks on but I don't like is the price nor am I loving how much I have to use in order to get the finished results.

All in all I enjoyed Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel and I'm sure I'll reach for it daily from now on however I'm unsure if I'll consider repurchasing at this price as I can get much better stains for less with better pigmentation.

Tried this?

Love it?

Want to try it?

I can't bring myself to buy high end makeup at Target. Whenever I go there, I can't get out of the "Target is for cheap and fun stuff!" mindset. I think the priciest makeup item I ever got there was their Sonia Kashuk brushes (love!!)... But the reviews I keep seeing for their lines aren't making me feel like I am missing anything either, so yay! :D

That stain looks great on you though. Am still on my natural kick, and loving anything without glitter, although that makes me boring I guess. Although for Christmas day, am planning to bring it all back out again!

It looks pretty on you but I think the smell would be a big turn off.

I'm still using that tiny sample of TheBalm Stainiac in Beauty Queen that I got from my Sephora order. It takes just such a tiny amount of product for me to get a good look on my cheeks that I'm truly impressed. It's on my 'buy this when I'm allowed to shop again' list ;P

And I'm with you, I think it's wrong to pay that much for a product from Target. I don't know why, but I do!

hi muse~! is me again :)

i got a little confuse about why this cheek gel is defined as an "high end" product~
i heard that gal gives a more natural looking than powder, what do u think?
u look really sweet in this pink color~~
I love love love this pinky colour

anyway, i returned the body shop eyeshadow coz the shimmer makes it more like a dramatic looking than i want ;p

hmm, do u have any ideas about the Holiday Blockbuster from Estee Lauder? im thinking about getting that, but i would like to hear from u first :)

hi kat!!!!!!!

Good morning to you!

This brand used to be sold at Sephora which is why many people are calling it high end :)

Oh yes it does. It gives a very natural look where as powder gives me of a vibrant, for lack of a better word, unnatural look.
thank you :) I really like stains that make my cheeks look flushed or just pinched :)

Awww sorry to hear about the body shop not working for you but you made the right choice as you can get something else that does work for you :)

Hmmm I've been debating on the EL Blockbuster for a while and honesty the colors just aren't fun enough for me to want to purchase it. I like a bit louder, brighter, and shimmery!

I think if you like naturals this would def be worth a look at but if you like a fun look you might want to indulge in something else like the Tarte Vanity Palette :)

Hope this helps!

Always good hearing from you Kat!

Big hugs!

Hi Muse! I'm a long time reader of your blog, and I love the variety of products you review!

I also have a cheapo-mindset when I go into Target. The idea of expensive makeup in Target kind of...scares me! The pixi stain looks so pretty on you though, definitely a healthy flushed look. How is the lasting power?

hi vivi!

Thanks so much for reading Musings :) greatly appreciate it!!!! And also thanks for taking time to comment!

Totally of the cheapo mindset to when I visit Target :) Honestly I wouldn't rant about it if I was in Sephora but I dunno what it is I can't feel spending $20 on blush at Target hehe!

Thanks so much :) Glad you liked the way it looks :-) The lasting power is fab as with all stains it lasts until you remove it! 10 hours or more ;)

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
Hope we talk again soon!
